Welcome to Gaia! ::

Has one of the things very common in your art been listed? (Not that it's important for you to care...)

I would have to agree on the filters, especially the leaf fliters >>;; Stop being lazy and draw it yourself 0-o;;

TLK "artists", for one. +_+

Jesus christ, get your own style. PREASE. I mean, it's a great skill to be able to copy a style if your going into animation but...

I doubt very many of these people plan on that. razz

I just cant really consider something "art" if all it is is a copy of a copy of a copy. :/

ja.
Supposing this refers to art trends in Gaia and dA... the realism-in-replacement-of-the-'anime'-style trend. Because if it's not 'anime', there's only 'realism' right?

Of course, it's not that I don't like either 'anime' or 'realism'. It's just that it's kind of strange that those are quite often the only two kinds categories people think of to explore. It could also boil down to just a matter of preferance...
And, for quite a number, pack mentality...
overly done realism and some manga type artworks that are so highly detailed that the artist becomes cocky and puts other artists down.
Icky, I had no idea about the shock-value art. Horrid.

Other then that. The 'I'm gonna be a manga-ka!' thing.
I cannot draw anything other then imitation anime crap because when I started drawing, I drew stuff people wanted. Now I'm extremely frustrated cause I can't get any style right.

But, some people do that really well. So. Oh well.

I hate the overly cocky computer art too, stuff on on photoshop and stuff, where they're just so cocky about their work, and their art shows it, I can't explain it.

Also, the art that's a few lines and that's it. Now, some of it's awesome, and it's cool that they can do it, but alot of them get cocky about it, it's not THAT great, there's no details. It's just smooth lines, whee.

Megatokyo. Terribly drawn, IMO. Fred doesn't even ink his drawings before he puts them up.

And people eat it up like the elixer of the gods. O_o;

I don't mind the art. I like the style, and he's become much better during the years. You don't need ink to have a complete drawing! But the story is just. so. damn. slow. ARGH!
And he should really stop whining. Talk about narcissistic...

I don't like any artist that's being so revered by their fanbase they can't ever be criticized without the critic being flamed by 1000+ fangirls though. Gah. Everyone can improve, always. Real artists get that.

I don't like the fake "anime" style in advertising nowadays. Or any try to imitate art trends.
Also, vector graphics that are clearly just put together from bases found on the web. Be a little original, people!
And lay off the damn photoshop effects already! Dodge and burn do not shading make, people.

wink

People who try too hard to do 'anime'. Usually take on styles similar to Katey Coope or Christopher Hart. And all too often flat, garish, and boring.

Most manga/anime artists I love don't worry too much about defining their style.

Of course, even if they don't even draw anime, alot of people might label it as such. With such a broad definition of anime, no wonder people are complaining about it being everywhere.
Photoshop grass. Should. Die. A millions times it should burn in hell. I also hate it when art make sparklies on their picture, not manually, not with a well done splatter brush, but with that nastly default photoshop + signish sparkle. It's just so....fake!

And I really hate it when people say, I wish I had a tablet, I'd be so much better, and so I look at their art, and it's absolute crap. x.x
That Naruto/Avatar underage yaoi that poisons the deviantart daily top favs. It can be as crappy as crap can be...but if it depicts some a** bumping, shota love those fangirls eat the s**t up. Kinda ***** and scary.

Report it. Underage stuff that has sexual undertones is not allowed on DA(although sometimes they go a bit to overboard on that. They can't even hold hands now?)

Of course I do--I haven't seen tame stuff get deleted because I don't really look at anime-yaoi-yuri-pairing on deviantart intentionally unless I go to the TDF's...I only click on and report the shota/lolicon...whatever smut against the rules I'm sick of seeing. They usually tear it down, while other times it just sits there. =p

Amen. Good tools don't make you a good artist automatically, lots of practice will.

And oh photoshop grass brush, how I despise thee XP
I think someone already mentioned it but the blatant disregard for all art genres apart from Manga and realism. I think realism has been tainted by foolish little kids who want to work on their "anatomy" and if they work on their "anatomy" they will be great. Im being sarcastic. What is wrong with just drawing to these kids, they must realise that to make it in the art world you need to be original, copying for hours on end will make you robotic and cheap. Humbug.
Someone made a general comment about cartooning not being an artform. Cartooning/Illustration is an visual artform, by the way. It is accepted thusly, even by reluctant snobby art schools around the world. If you don't see it as an artform, try creating one yourself.

Well, if we are talking specifically about the comic/illustration industry, I honestly don't have a lot of gripes. A lot of people who make money off "bad" art. Usually, its the result of ridiculous deadlines from otherwise okay artists. Sometimes clients will want things nearly immediately, its hard to make something astounding without planning. A lot of comics are this way. Its probably more the fault of the industry than the artist.

As for imitation arts, human nature is to imitate. It really shouldn't surprise people that style stealing or "borrowing of ideas" is so prevelent. Been going on for years, look at Picasso and Braque.
I honestly don't have a lot of stock in people complaining about the "generic" style of anime and manga. It's consumers who are forcing many professional artists to conform to such tripe to sell work.
Anime. Nuff said. It was groundbreaking and different a few years ago, yes, but now EVERY SINGLE ANIMATION STUDIO IN JAPAN draws roughly the same way, and its quite stifling to the creativity. And to make it worse, now that it's catching on so strongly in America, tons of American kids want to copy what's been done 500 times over rather than pioneer their own style or execute their own ideas. I'm sure everyone has some really original stuff to get out of their heads--why squander your time on creating that "oh-so-kawaii manga" with the cookie-cutter stereotypical cast of characters?
