The big boob drawings are gross.

GROSS. D:

I once saw one picture where the person was in one teeny corner and her boobs took up the rest of the page.

Yuk.
i don't think i ever got pissed off at any trend, really. i tend to let other people judge drawings, because even if i may not like it, it could be something great in another persons' eyes.

i'll say it anime, and most mangas though, i think it's disturbing how most artist will try to fish in some more adult male readers by drawing big breast on women. i dislike how some artist wll forget where the head is, and with the hair tend to mess it up. most people do that with Gokuu, from dragonballz. like the hair doesn't fit on the scalp with the way you look at it, however it'll look good. tell people to take time out and make the hair look even better. whee
Minimalism.

It's probably a sign that I should move more towards art dolls or take my inspiration from old stuff, public domain or mythology...

Noooo, it's a sign that artists are too afraid to say anything else than 100% praise, lying or not. People saying "OMG it's..." don't even care about your art, they just care about what they want to see. People who do like your art will check out your other stuffs, although they might not say how they feel about it.

I very rarely do fanart but I once did a Naruto one, and on artwanted had some idiot go "Where's Sasuke!!! I HATE YOU". Ugh.
Hope you accecpt hate against general art to smile
Well regardless here goes;
I normally hang on DeviantArt, and 50% of the people there submit photos of a
normally rather ugly person looking away with webcam quality, shitty crop, shitty quality, no artistic merit and adds it as a "emotive portrait".

I am tempted to become a mass murderer.

Art that are "different" (read; ugly). Generally talentless people submitting their shitty paintings, saying they are doing it to be different.
I ofcourse point out how much it sucks, note them about general composition theory etc. And all I get is some angry my chemical romance fan answering
"im doin it 2 b diffrnt, itz like tht couse i want it to be, none of the previuouos great artist ever followed smn else"
well; NEWS FLASH: THEY WHERE TALENTED, and knew WHY they do what they do, and they actually mastered something else than "different" styles. Their statement was not "ololol i be different"- like yours is.

It makes me cry.

Sorry for long rant!

hotoshop grass. Should. Die. A millions times it should burn in hell.

bwahahahaaa! that's so true!

The blue backlight is okay, especially stand alone characters like DarkishStar, it's a way of rounding off to make it compleate. I suppose it could be overused, though.

Now, if you had characters suck in...erm...a bathroom, yeah, with a blue backlight? That would just be silly. 3nodding

The sunburnt thing, I have to disagree. I've seen some people who pull it off really cool but slapping strong hues and then a white screen (not dodge!!) doesn't really work unless it's applied right.
I agree the sunburnt thing can be done right. But I'm talking about the countless ones.. where it's done.. glaringly wrong. Dx Or it looks bad, or it doesn't fit the style and people just put it in.. because it's trendy and they don't want to try anything else.

Yeah and I can understand the blue-backlight being overused, but I think people use the blue because it stands out or helps accentuate something. I like to think that a 2nd light source can be used though. surprised Like sometimes I'll use yellow is someone is in the sunlight. xD But that's where it makes sense. I wouldn't senselessly put some purple lighting where there wouldn't be, like in a forest or something. Dx I guess I have seen some artists do that, but not often. O_O;

Guh.

I HATE that one style, where the elbows, shoulders, knees, nose, and cheeks.. have that crazy pinky red color.. and then white dots piled on top. It's not cute, it's not fleshy colored.

It's sunburned.
With a bad need of aloe vera gel.

I do the little rosy cheek thingie sad . But I like the ruddy color. At least, for me, it gives the pictures I color more dimension and depth, since it kinda rounds things off. Plus, I'm one of those sorta-kinda older artists that grew up around a lot of Norman Rockwell, and I still adore him. He's the one that actually started the trend razz .
No no, that's not what I mean. I love the actual rosy cheek, the natural one, I love Norman Rockwell's blush on his children and people. xD. Like on Santa Clauses from Norman Rockwell. It's natural, many people have ruddy faces, and he makes them part of the character, natural, and part of his style.

I don't like the anime one.. where not only the cheeks are rosy, but so are the joints on the body for no reason. Dx And to top it off, they put a white dot in the middle of it. That's not Norman Rockwell, it's just a trend, he didn't start this trend. I don't see any white dots on the blushing cheeks he paints.

I agree with Sylph on the shock value art.
I don't care what mental defect or disorder you have, what your 'message' is or even if its just 'creatively'.
I do not see the point of taking another creatures life for entertainment purposes of your self, or others.
Even if there is 'a message' behind it.
SO THAR>

My current peeve is one towards dA.
Its the sudden increase in inflation art and general nudity.

I know, I know. Its been complained about before, but damn.
For a while there (and yes, it has gotten a little better since then), every 4th deviation on the 'popular' page had a pair of boobs the size of large party balloons or a rather interestingly posed lady.

Yes, I also know 'WHY DON"T YOU TURN ON YOUR CONTENT FILTER?!".
Because I don't mind a little nudity - creative or artistic, I can live with ot.
I even don't mind some of the well done fetish stuff.
I just don't like to see that much, or to be more exact - that kind.

Particularly the inflation art - the overly bloated nude cat girls.
You know what I mean - its not just a little over weight, or even obese - its just plain stupid, nor is it pretty (or well done 90% of the time).

I know there has to be people who like it out there (other wise, how would it get the popular features its been getting recently?), but I'm not one of them k.

and you wanna know what’s scary?
These pieces of art are the kinds of art that represent dA, because face it. The first thing a person is going to look at when the join is probably be the popular galleries.

and I don't want no 10tone neko being my flag flier thanks D:

ohmy. Glam ranted and didn't make much of a point, nor did she make much sense. F34r my horrible ability to word things these days.

EDIT:

ohyah.
and I hate to say it, but Ayem makes me voilently angry for no reason other then I don't like her and her personalitly.

and snapsnogger I have a love-hate relationship with.
He Style annoys the crap out of me (NO NOSES gonk ), but I love her OC's and...she's a fellow aussie.

They're not really trends are they? D:

The content filter on DA isn't perfect. I have it on, and I still see a lot of nasty stuff there...
One thing that amuses me a bit is the over use of wings on characters, without tails. Without the tails flight would be clusmy, if at all possible (even flying squirrels use their tails in flight/gliding).
Additionally the wings are the wrong size; either increadibly large or little midget wings which look rediculous, it just proves the wings are there for the sake of being cool, not for flight or a justifiable part of the character, etc. Lastly there are the whole busty girls who are pathetically skinny with wings (where is the muscule, essential for flight?)

Ooooh kind of a rant, but my point's in there, somewhere. gonk

Photoshop grass. Should. Die. A millions times it should burn in hell. I also hate it when art make sparklies on their picture, not manually, not with a well done splatter brush, but with that nastly default photoshop + signish sparkle. It's just so....fake!

And I really hate it when people say, I wish I had a tablet, I'd be so much better, and so I look at their art, and it's absolute crap. x.x

Amen. Good tools don't make you a good artist automatically, lots of practice will.

And oh photoshop grass brush, how I despise thee XP

Yeah. I've seen some amazing artists who use a mouse, and some really bad ones who use a tablet.
Also, I've seen some artists who use cheap pens and stuff but still create beautiful artwork.
DarkishStar

Ew. Oh, dude I totally feel you.

I've seen some anime artists utilize the shiny cheek thing okay.. but most people just overdo it to the extent that it looks like a million measly ZITS sitting on top of their figures.

Gross. Nothanku. talk2hand
About 2 years ago, I was all for anime. Now it pisses me off. Not only is it everywhere, but it's keeping beginner's from learning how to draw the right way.On top of that, it's poorly drawn most of the time, with terrible composition.

Edit: the unproportional features, the huge eyes, huge boobs, angular faces.

You: Yay ! I got Copic markers for Christmas !!1eleventeen !!1!! *does the eggnog cabbage patch*
Me:You got Copics for Chrsitmas ? Wow, that's nice. Did you get a whole set ?
You: No, I just got the colors I need for anime art.
Me; -_-;

First... I love eggnog.

Also, I heartily agree with this. Freakin' noobs rape the hell out of the copics that are obviously too good for them. I hate seeing good resources going to such terrible waste.
anime on air that had GREAT manga art but looks horrible on the tv..............
