Ahoy Hoy

Is there anybody here who thinks that they can draw Nissa Revane (MTG Planeswalker) wearing Commander Shepard's armor?

Just curious.

Oh, I certainly could draw that. A lot of us could. The problem is we won't do anything without being paid.

Indeed. It's a shame the local artists I know are all so darn modest about themselves that they're not even willing to try. It's not a matter of being able to paint it or not for them, just "oh no, that's too complex". But hey, I'm an artist with words, not drawing, so maybe they're seeing things I'm not...

Oh, whoops...sorry, I misunderstood you. I thought this was another attempt to trick artists into drawing something for free, since a lot of people come to this forum and say things like "I dare you to draw my avi". Being active in Art Discussion has left me jaded. >_<

I agree though, that a lot of people don't want to try to draw something just because they think it's too complicated or too time-consuming. If they don't start drawing complicated things, how will they ever learn?

I can see how you'd think that, I've seen a bit of that from place to place. I wasn't trying to be tricky, I was just trying to get a general consensus from people on how difficult they thought it'd be. I'm trying to convince my friend she should have a go at it because she is REALLY good, just modest about it. It's the same thing with writing - if you don't write challenging stuff then you just go and stagnate, then it's like starting a car on a cold morning - your brain just doesn't want to get into gear...or however that metaphor goes razz

AD is mostly populated with professionals, art students and serious hobbyists as the regulars. OF course there are also the random tweens and teens that misplace their threads, that probably think they can as well... (thus Annies thought you were being tricky - it was my first thought as well so that should tell you how often we get to deal with that sort of mentality)

Sounds like a really obscure fandom crossover...

Though since it's fanart, you can probably find somebody who like these fandoms and give them the tip. If you're lucky they'll draw it and sell prints so that you could get a copy.

I thought that professionals and whatnot would hang out here, I just failed to realize that apparently so many people tried to trick or goad you people into drawing for them sweatdrop like I said, I was just curious but I guess some people misconstrued that as me trying to be subtle sweatdrop

I'll be more cautious from now on 3nodding

A few even said we should just draw their s**t for the love of drawing. I was tempted to draw it and say I did but not post it and mention I liked how it turned out. As for your topic, I could but I'd have to look at reference material because I'm not familiar with the subjects. I mean reference no eyeballing.

Anyone could draw that, it's just /how well/ can they draw it that you need to worry about. :3 At worst your friend could just do a bad drawing, at best they'll surprise themselves with how well they did.

And that's a really really odd crossover. @.@ Especially for Nissa. I kind of want to know what lead to an idea like that.

eyeballing is drawing a replica of a piece of art or a photo to the best of your ability. It's considered to be theft. Referencing is looking at many picture to get an idea of what you want to draw, it's not a copy of anything.

Ah, okay. I'm only familiar with the term 'eyeballing' in the context of looking something over extensively.

I'll give you these two images, then. The top one is Nissa and the bottom one is the type of armor I mentioned above.

I can only tell her that so many times before I start sounding forceful (at least in my own ears). I think she should draw it, if only to prove herself wrong, but I don't want to force her to sweatdrop I just think that it's better to do something and fail than to give up and commit oneself to being lesser than they are.

Well, it was something I heard from somebody, that the Eldrazi were like the Reapers of the Magic: The Gathering universe that sort of made me think of Nissa in a Shepard-like role, and that in the canon she's taken off after Sorin to try and force him to deal with the problem. In my fangirl mind she's totally gone to assemble her crew and take down the Rea--Eldrazi xd

That doesn't look difficult, my hands are even working now. Who would guess getting really sick would fix my hands? I use copics rather than CG now because the screen of my laptop washes out colors so it become super saturated when I make things on it.
