Hi can anybody direct me to a good NEWBIE pixel art tut or thread?
I want to create pixel art like those in the Gaia forums. Edit: I am a complete newbie on pixel art. Would want a decent newbie pixel art tutorial. |

Well u can search in google as Pixel Art, know there are some fine tutorials out there, so u must search everwhere you can and have the disposition to use photoshop and take a time to do your art...Hope to have helped, see ya wish u luck dramallama ninja

 Sometimes is all the time... Thank you for all the replies everybody. I forgot to put that I am a complete newbie on the whole pixel art thing. For all this time i've always been doing avatar art with my tablet. But i can learn really fast. It's just that i have been looking for pixel art tutorials in Deviantart but i just can't find the right "newbie tutorial" that isn't so difficult nor too simple. =( Still searching though... If i still can't find some decent ones, i will remember the above people <3 ...and never means maybe. Such a paradox, isn't it? |

This is somewhat of a difficult question to answer, but I'll try to help the best I can.
Firstly, you need to learn a set of basic skills, which include shading, color choice, dithering, etc., as well as some things to not do, including rough outlines and pillow shading. For these skills, I direct you to Derek Yu's tutorial. http://derekyu.com/extras/pixel01.html Then, you need to put these skills into practice. Start with some simple edits, and progress from there. Try all things- do not limit yourself to learning a set of rules for a single style of pixel art, for other areas provide skills which you can use. You'll also need other art skills, such as anatomy, composition, shading, etc. As a note, I suggest you not start with Gaia editing, as the style is quite difficult for beginners to take up. Also, I suggest you go and learn how to use Paint effectively, because it is an amazing program for pixel art in the right hands. (Disregard if you do not have Windows). I will provide a link here for an excellent directory to pixel art resources.
