@kayley: I think about joining everything I get invited too, but I rarely find time for them unless I'm inspired right away. I'll have to see how life pans out

Okay, well I will be very happy if you are able to enter, and if you aren't I will still be thankful that you considered joining the contest. 3nodding

Believe it or not, I'm in DECA as well, and choir. I'm from Toronto, Canada. If you're class of '10, then i'm a year older than you. And I must say, I'm very impressed by your accomplishment on writing/publishing a triology, at such a young age.

    Sweet. biggrin

I absolutely love DECA! I actually went to the State Officer orientation on Saturday (April 17). I'll be a WADECA State Officer from 2009-2010. I'm excited for nationals next week because I will be attending the LEADS academy as a state officer, and I will be competing in the Internet Marketing Plan category. whee Do you compete?

I love choir too, and I will be competing in our state competition on Friday (April 24). I'm sad though, because my specific choir may be canceled since it's so small. I'm in the select womens ensemble, Vivace. I really hope it's not canceled. :[ What type of choir do you sing in?

And thank you for the compliments!

That is very good to know! I really am debating between Chinese and Japanese for next year, so any opinion about it helps. The main reason I chose Japanese is that I think it would be easier to travel to than China, both because of the amount of smog and because the Chinese are dominated by a communist faction of government. I'm just deciding between the two because I might pursue international business relations.

China might be communist, but if you ever get a chance to come to China, I'm pretty sure that like most foreigners, you'd be blown away by how capitalistic they are when it comes to economy. And, it's much cheaper here in China than it is in Japan, too. Like, huge disparity. I've never traveled to Japan so I wouldn't know much about traveling there, but China has been pretty easy so far and the Chinese people are really good hosts. It's in they're culture, apparently, to be good hosts so if it's obvious that you're a foreigner (meaning you don't look like another random Asian) most people are friendly and would make sure you are having a good time in China.

Anyway, I wouldn't really put 100% of my faith on the media and what it says about China. The major cities are quite polluted but otherwise, other parts of China are very beautiful.

It's also very interesting that you mention international business relations. I thinking about international relations blaugh , for my masters anyway.

Thanks for the information! I will definitely take it into consideration.

My main focus right now is a double-major in Business/Political Science for Bachelor's, an MBA, then a law degree. But a couple of my schools don't offer business (Stanford U. has no business as undergraduate; "international relations" is the closest they have), so I might need to look internationally.

Wow, you're going to Stanford? Awesome. I was too poor to go anywhere outside of my state.

I haven't applied yet, but it's my #1 school ATM. I'm hoping that having a published book will be enough of a hook to get me in. 3nodding Of course, that is not at all why I am publishing, but it would be a pleasant side effect.

Stanford is actually offering a nice financial aid package to me. They said that with their scholarships alone I could have my tuition go from $40k a year to $15k a year.

In-state colleges pretty much aren't available for me; none are my style. I don't want to sacrifice my education because of money since it will determine what I am able to do with my life. And it's not necessarily that my state has bad colleges - U-dub is one of the top universities - but it has over 15,000 students and that is way too big of a school for me. Stanford is the biggest school that I am considering.

My school was good enough for me (and it turned out to be a lot better than I had expected biggrin ). Although if I wasn't restricted by money, living costs and tuition, I would've loved to try out of state. It was just more realistic. And good luck with getting an agent, if you are. I've heard from published authors that it can take anywhere from six months to a year, and then a few more months to get a publisher interested. smile

Yeah, I don't expect to actually be published by the time I apply. However, if I have established contact with a particular agent or company I should be able to weave that into one of my essays or add it to some part of my application, since colleges usually like hearing about such circumstances. The estimated publish date that I have always envisioned is 2010.

I virtually have no money as well, but I plan on earning a lot of scholarships. I guess I will have to take the rest in loans. :[

But it is great that you found a low-expense college that worked for you! I just haven't been able to find such an opportunity.
