Greetings and Hello! My name is Tala and I’d like to take a moment to welcome you to my OC art contest~

EDIT: EVERYONE WHO ENTERS WILL GET A PRIZE! Awesome right? The prizes will be small prizes. Probably only a couple thousand gold. Still, this is something I'd like to do for everyone who enters as a "Thank You" for entering.

The reason for this contest:
I’ve recently fallen in love with two characters in a role play that I’m in. I’ve done many drawings of them myself, but I’ve always loved to see what other people can do. So here is your chance to show me what you’ve got. Bring your art skills here. Any kind will be fine from chibi to anime to realistic to simple doodle. Any and all art is welcome!

The contest will end on DATE TO BE ANNOUNCED (hoping for at least 20 submissions)

What I'm looking for:
Art of my OC's to put it plainly. I'd like couple art or even single art of the characters. If you have the time, a scene would be nice of you to draw out. It can be funny, romantic, or sad. Anything will do. If you have questions, let me know!

~The Characters~

Raethi

~Raethi is a half-fire elemental. She spent the better part of her life as a thief. When she wasn’t stealing she was doing odd jobs around the city (delivering messages, helping unload carts, ect). She is currently working as Gran's "assistant" and occasionally helps Bart and Marice out at their tavern. She is very stubborn and doesn’t really talk to people much. She tends to set things on fire, if accidentally, due to her powers and the fact that even for a half elemental, she is quite young. As far as her powers go, Raethi has next to no control of them which, for her, often results in burnt hands or charred clothes.

Raethi has a deep set fear of a group of people called “The Huntsmen” who go and destroy magical creatures to protect society. Raethi’s mother (a fire elemental) was killed by the huntsmen when she was very little. When Raethi was fifteen, she was caught trying to steal. The man she had tried to steal from told her in no uncertain terms that if she didn’t give her life to him, then she would be given over to the Huntsmen. In her fear, Raethi accidentally burned him quite badly resulting in her becoming a “wanted” creature. This event causes her frequent nightmares and only helped to increase her paranoia about being around other people. She has remained in the city even after the event and is quite scared of leaving the city since she has very little memory of what the world outside the walls is like.

Raethi is very protective of Gran and really likes him, even though he’s four centuries her senior.

Raethi always wears a necklace that Gran has given her. It's a simple piece made out of wood with an amber stone in the center. It allows her to turn into a falcon, bear, or fish at will. Gran gave it to her on the day he first told her that he had feelings for her. Raethi often touches it when she's nervous or uncomfortable.

Raethi has an allergy to magic. She feels ill when any sort of non-natural magic is used around or on her. It drains her and could actually kill her.

Raethi hates to be touched by most people. After a Torpor, her body becomes super sensitive and touch causes her pain.

Please note: Raethi does have an “elemental” form. She should look sort of like a fairy if you decide to draw her in this form. The only requirements for drawing Raethi in an elemental form are that her whole body seems to be on fire. There are no drawings of this yet.



Gran
~Gran is four centuries old, though you wouldn’t know it by looking at him. He has used his abilities to make himself look as though he's about 28 years old. He is a “natural” wizard, meaning that he always had powers, even if he didn’t know how to use them. Gran’s natural ability happens to be the ability to change and heal himself and other people. Since discovering this ability, Gran has essentially made himself immortal. He can get wounded and he can die, but to be honest that isn’t on his “to do” list. As a consequence of his immortality, Gran is often haunted by the deaths that he’s seen, the people he hasn’t been able to help, and the loved one’s he’s lost. Gran can only use his powers on live things and he can only alter himself if he has a mirror to look in. His eyes are more or less the key to his power.

Gran runs a shop in the city where he uses his abilities to change how people look. Sometimes this involves him doing some minor healing. He mostly deals with the rich people of the city, though he will go out of his way to help poor people. Gran has a habit of acting like he’s insane. Part of it may be because he’s a hermit, the other part may be the fact that he simply doesn’t want to think about his past. He tends to get very sad if he has time to think, so he keeps himself busy.

He has a soft spot for Raethi, and would do anything to protect her.

Gran has an allergy to magic. Any magic used on him is amplified, whether good or bad. This was used against him at one point to force him to love another for three years. Gran was aware of what he was doing the whole time and couldn't stop it. As a result, a monster was born. Now free, any sort of imprisonment will cause Gran's eyes to go red and he will become something other than himself. He would break himself just trying to get free. While in this monster like state, Gran doesn't recognize anything or anyone, not even Raethi. It is while in this form that Louise's spell takes hold and she is able to manipulate him to her will.

(Please note how simple Gran’s clothes are. His clothes should always be quite simple. He doesn’t care for a lot of detailing or extravagance even though he is very wealthy.)


Other Characters

THE HUNTSMEN

The Huntsmen-A group of men and women who hunt rouge magical creatures. They have no set uniform, though most choose to wear earthy colors (Greens and Browns). Many wear some sort of armor, and all of them carry one sort of weapon or another.

Unweavers- A special sect of the huntsmen who dress in elegant robes. They specialize in undoing magic, even if it is of the “natural” sort. The colors of their garb vary, but most wear a tabard with a simple sphere in the middle and some simple design on the edges. Those that have heard of Gran are very interested in him, though not in a good way.

Kydi (Kadiya)- A mental wizard and a Huntswoman. Kydi has short, pixy cut brown hair that is cut at an angle so that it's longer on the left side than it is on the right. She has amber colored eyes. Kydi wears pants, boots and a long sleeved tunic with leather bracers and a leather vest. She's not very picky about what she wears, just as long as it's not too baggy. Kydi is very happy go lucky, even when she's feeling down. She will always pretend to be happy in some way because she doesn't like to feel weak. Kydi has the ability to project her thoughts into the physical world, using them either as illusions or weapons. She forms all of her pain and sorrow into chakrams. As a child, Kydi was locked in a closet for three days. As a result she hates closed spaces. She cried out with her mental powers and grasped onto Greygar's mind. Greygar came and saved her, but Kydi retained little memory of this event. All the same, she feels a connection with Greygar and would do anything for him. She is 120 years old but looks about 30.

Greygar- An Unweaver and a Huntsman. He has neatly cut blond hair with streaks of white in it and a closely trimmed beard. He also possesses deep blue (nearly black) eyes. Greygar tends to wear rather simple clothes: boots, pants, and a button up shirt along with leather arm guards and a half of a leather breast plate that is strapped on over his shirt. The half breast plate covers from his heart over across the left side of his chest. He is never seen without a sword. Though he is an Unweaver, he goes without the traditional Unweaver's mark and never wears a tabbard because he believes it looks too much like a dress. Greygar is near 200 years old which is the maximum age for a wizard, though he looks about forty. Greygar is immensely powerful, specializing in unweaving the natural side of magic. As a result, he's been used to capture and kill many elementals in the course of his life. His latest target is Raethi, though he has done significant work in researching Gran, including making something that will successfully bind Gran's powers if ever the need arises. Greygar is very aloof, preferring never to show his more emotional side. He spends the better part of his days training young Huntsmen. Even as old and as grumpy as he is, his students love him. He is rather fond of Kydi and is comfortable enough around her to occasionally smile. When she asked him to tutor her, he readily agreed.

Jerome- The new Head Unweaver in the Alwox branch of the Huntsmen. He has short, often messy brown hair and dark eyes that always seem to be puffy or rimmed because he doesn't sleep as often as he should. Jerome wears standard pants and a shirt along with boots. His right ear is pierced four times. The edges of his clothes are embroidered and he wears a sheif of cloth hanging from his belt that covers his right thigh. The cloth is a miniature tabbard that has been embroidered with the Unweaver's symbol. He is never seen without it. Jerome is around sixty years old but only looks to be about twenty. Jerome has taken it upon himself to capture Gran no matter what the costs. He will do anything to best Greygar, even going so far as to betray the older Unweaver and attempt to murder him. He feels as though he is always standing in Greygar's shadow and finds that even in his old age, Greygar can still best him. Often times Jerome comes off as rude and cocky. Most of the Huntsmen don't like him, but because he is the current head Unweaver, they put up with him.

THE ELEMENTALS

Brzzictah- A male fire elemental whose true form resembles that of a Pheonix. He has long wavy white hair that is always kept tied back. Wispy bangs frame his face. He is an older man and looks to be about 40 years old though he has lived countless millennia. In his human form, he wears simple pants and travel boots. His tunic is similar to Gran’s, although it is sleeveless. He also wears a long vest with simple runes at the bottom. He often watches Gran from afar and treats Raethi as though she's a child. Brzzictah is often seen brooding or thinking. Brzzictah's Mate was asleep in a torpor for thousands of years, leaving him alone to contemplate what he could do to wake her up and save her. For the longest time, it caused him great agony, but with her return, Brzzictah became much more tolerant of Raethi and Gran's relationship. His elemental form is a pheonix.

Gretta- A Fire and earth elemental who hates humans and half elementals. She looks to be in her late twenties. Gretta is well built with short brown hair that is always kept clipped back with ornamented barrettes. Her eyes are light blue. She always wears pants and a shirt that conforms to her upper body rather tightly. Most of her shirts are sleeveless, but she does occasionally wear arm warmers. She has a particular scorn for Brzzictah because his Mate is a half elemental and she feels it is some sort of betrayal. She is looking for any reason to start a second war between elementals and humans, thinking that it would be better if the humans were either overrun by elementals. She feels a particular agony about The Binding because she saw many of her friends captured and slaughtered by the humans and was unable to do a thing about it. Her elemental form is a large, molten creature with armored scales. It resembles a cross between a lizard and a wolf.

Mariead- A half fire elemental. She looks to be about 40. Mariead has long, wavy blond hair and light green eyes. She wears very light clothing which mostly consists of dresses tied at the waist with a sash. She generally walks barefoot when she can. She is Brzzictah's mate, newly reborn with the help of Gran. Mariead is rather sweet and cannot talk normally, so she communicates by projecting her voice outward from her body, creating a sort of disembodied voice effect. Mariead is sweet and very understanding right up until someone makes her angry. She is vicious in a battle and would do anything to protect Brzzictah. Her elemental form resembles a feminine Ifrit with very small wings.

Tate (Hecate) and Hecati- Twin elementals. Hecati is a girl and is part water elemental, part earth. Tate is a boy and his pure earth elemental. Both cut their dark brown hair short, Hecati in more of a pixy cut than Tate. While Hecati has blue eyes, Tate's eyes are green. Both look to be about seventeen, though they are around 400 years old. Tate tends to act rather goofy and has a crush on Raethi. He'd do anything to make her smile or notice him. This often gets him into trouble with Hecati who is more reserved. Hecati often punishes Tate by dragging him out of a situation by his ears. She views Raethi as a sister.

HUMANS AND OTHER

Beasty- A squirrel that Gran transformed into a cat. He is very big and fat. He still possesses a squirrel tail and small, squirrel like paws. He also retained his natural coloring, grey with a white underbelly. He doesn’t like Raethi, but he adores Gran. Beasty, along with the honey colored "Mama Waffles" have five rambunctious kittens that look like Beasty but have their mother's coloring.


Marice-An older, plump woman with long brown hair. She is often dressed in a long dress with an apron as she is the cook of a tavern in the main city. She keeps a very long spear in the back just in case the customers get too rowdy. The scary part is that she both knows how to use it and isn’t afraid to. She used to be a mercenary for hire, but got tired of the life. She's rather motherly and treats Raethi like a daughter, but has retained quite a temper from her days as a mercenary. She doesn't tolerate riff raff.

Bart-An older man with short light brown hair. He is very muscular. His face is scared up, but he’s actually very nice. He is often dressed in a simple tunic, pants and boots. He is the bartender at a tavern in the main city and Marice’s husband. He keeps it a secret that he was once a Huntsman and prefers to take on a cheery, if sometimes very quiet persona. He's very watchful.


Louise Alderman- Wizard. Louise Alderman has known Gran for a long time. She often came to him for changes, mostly involving her age. She prefers the form of a twelve year old girl with curly blond hair and sapphire eyes. She wears soft, lolita style dresses that show her wealth.These dresses are layered in with petticoat and bows or lace. She wears shoes with a slight heel to them along with tights. She wears only a few articles of jewelery, most notably a simple ring inlaid with diamonds about the band. Her hair is always done up immaculately and she is never seen without make up. Louise holds herself as a noble woman. She's always straight backed and holds her social position above others. This has caused much tension between herself and Gran. Their latest fight escalated to a fever pitch. Louise threw furniture around the shop and nearly crushed Gran to death by using her magic to make the cement floor come alive. She vowed revenge on him, eventually brain washing Gran for three years. During the three years, she discovered his "immortality" and consequently bound herself to Gran's mind.

Background Story

The setting is in a steam punk esq society. The main city is huge and is surrounded by a large iron wall. The city mostly produces items for the huntsmen (Tools, armor, weapons ect) and is made up of a mixed population of wizards and regular humans.

Elementals roam the land, though not as often as they had before the Huntsmen were founded. They are born of natural disasters. It is rare for an elemental to be born and just as rare for that elemental to bear a child. Half elementals are generally more accepted than full elementals if only for the simple fact that they aren't nearly as powerful as their full blooded counterparts. Elementals possess two forms: a human form and a "true" form which is based on what the natural disaster they were born of consumed. Ex: Disaster=Landslide in an unpopulated area. Resulting elemental form: May range from something Treant like to something animalistic like a huge badger or a sort of wooden deer.

Raethi works for Gran as a secretary in his shop. They met after she stole some food from a street vendor. Gran saw her steal the food and followed her to an alleyway where he proposed that she come and work for him. She initially refused until Gran half threatened to tell the Huntsmen. Since then, she’s worked in his shop quite happily despite how she came to be there. Eventually the two fall for each other, though between the insane customers and the Huntsmen, there never seems to be a safe place for them.

Reference Terms:

Mate: A term Elementals use when referring to their other half. Beings only have one mate. If their other half is found, a special bond is created allowing for the pair to share their life energies with each other. Once the bond is created, the death of one means certain death for the other.

Torpor: A term Elementals use for a long sleep. When Elementals and Half Elementals get weak or use too much energy, they go to sleep within the earth for a while, up to several years. For half elementals, the sleep is unique. An elemental will drift into the earth, body and all, while a half elemental's body is left behind while their spirit drifts into the earth to sleep. This leaves the body vulnerable and able to be destroyed by one thing or another. In the case of Brzzictah's mate, her body died while her soul lived on asleep forever within the earth.

Unweaver: A term used to describe someone who has the ability to undo magic of any sort.

Half Elemental: The offspring of an elemental and a human. A rather rare occurrence. They possess all the powers of an elemental, but aren't nearly as long lived.

Elemental: A being born from the sorrow of humans, usually brought on by a natural disaster. They are born looking like young adults. They possess any combination of elemental powers (earth, fire, wind, water), and can live for millennium.

The Binding: A period of time roughly 400 years before the occurrence of the story. Elementals were hunted and killed freely by humans who feared that the elementals would Consume them all. This is the time in which the Huntsmen were formed.

Consuming: An elemental may kill another being and take their energy into themselves in order to become stronger. On some occasions, this will change the elemental's natural form or powers.

Ages: Elementals age physically a year every hundred or so years. Half elementals usually age in half that time span. Any human without magical talent will age normally. Humans with magical talent can either age faster or slower depending on how they use their magic (EX: A battle mage would look much older than a healer would). The harsher the magic, the more aged a mage looks. As a result, most battle oriented mages die before they reach 50 because their body has worn itself out. The longest lived mage on record was 200 years old, which is around double the life span of a normal person. In general, no matter how young a mage appears, they will generally die before their 200th year unless they use forbidden magics to keep themselves alive.

Some scenes for your reference

-Gran and Raethi in Gran’s rooftop garden. Gran keeps a garden full of fruits and vegetables on his roof top. Some of them are normal, others are combinations of them. For instance, Raethi’s favorite food that Gran has “created” is a mix between a carrot and an apple.

-Raethi protecting Gran.

-Raethi hugging Gran. Many things in Gran's past sadden him. Most everyone he's ever known or loved has died and he hasn't been able to do anything about it. Though he has the ability to make people live forever, he wont do so out of fear of upsetting the natural balance. As a result , he will sometimes get very sad and distant because he feels guilty for living while his loved ones have died. Raethi always hugs him to bring him out of it.

-Raethi and Gran’s first meeting.Raethi went into an alleyway after she stole a doughnut and climbed up onto the sill of a broken window to eat it. Gran followed her there with a bag of his own doughnuts and, smiling all the while, asked her to be his assistant or he would turn her in to the Huntsmen.

-Raethi accidentally lighting something on fire or playing with fire.

-Raethi in her elemental form.

-Gran and Raethi kissing.

-Gran healing Raethi’s wounds.

-Gran or Raethi captured by the Huntsmen or an Unweaver.

-Gran asking for Raethi's forgiveness. Clair, a customer of Gran's put a spell on Gran to make him fall in love with her. After a month, Raethi is able to get help and change Gran back to normal, but has become unsure of his feelings for her. Gran see's this and asks Raethi to forgive him for what he's said and done while under the spell.

-Raethi in Torpor. For fire elementals, Torpor is a state of dormancy which comes after great stress or injury. Full elementals will drift into the earth, body and all, while half elementals like Raethi will split from their body to return from the earth. Gran must take care of her body while she is resting. If anything were to happen to it, Raethi would die.

-Gran as the Monster When Gran feels trapped or sees something that reminds him of his captivity, his eyes glow red and he goes on a rampage to find a way out or to destroy whatever he feels is a thread. Raethi fears this form because Gran doesn't recognize her and would hurt her, if on accident.



Take creative license where you please, but please give me something with emotion. I don't care if it's sad, horrible, happy or angry. Emotion is the key here. The more emotion I see in a piece, the more likely it is to win.

Due to some personal family matters, this contest has slipped my mind. Not to worry though. With things on the up and up I plan on coming back with a vengeance and prizes! I'm also thinking of further extending the end date for the contest so that it ends closer to Christmas. What do you guys think?

HAPPY HALLOWEEN!
This month has been one hell of a trial for me everyone. Aside from family matters going from bad to worse, I haven't seem to have had enough time to get the word out for this contest. We need more entrants! More entrants means more goods for everyone. I hope you will put the word out.

In further news, I've extended the contest indefinitely or at least until there are 20-30 entrants to divide the prizes up amongst.

The Contest Prizes have also changed, including the contest categories. Scene and Emotion categories have been combined. I find that emotions often come from scenes and scenes often have emotion. You might have also noticed the ??? in the prizes for Raethi and Gran. These are things that will be worth between 50 and 100k and will be determined at a later date once I go through my inventory further. It is quite possible that these could be old monthly letters that I've kept stored away.

Guess what? There is new concept art out for Raethi in elemental form. Keep in mind that this form is different than her regular, fire elemental form. In this form, Raethi has consumed a portion of Gran's power VIA a necklace he made to protect her. As a result, this elemental form shows Raethi with wooden skin and the ability to control earth as well as fire. This form is particular to her using the power of another, so keep that in mind.

Also, I'm thinking that this contest might just leak over into next year. So that leaves time for you guys to make suggestions as to what I could do for prizes. What categories would you like to see? Is there anything in the cash shop right now that you find is very interesting or lovely? Just a thought. Many EI's and Rapid EI's have come and gone. I like knowing what everyone likes so that I can better see about procuring sed items. Or perhaps I should just go for straight gold? What do you think?

New news! I'm currently drawing out a comic strip of Raethi and Gran. I'm hoping to upload it soon in it's rough form.

Also, several edits have been made to the Character's section, further describing the characters as well as adding several new characters. Meet Gretta and Mariead, two very different souls in the world.

There has also been a space allotted for special terms and definitions just below the background story section. If there are any questions please feel free to ask.

Just one last thing, who here would like to be a part of a mini contest for the month of December based around this larger contest? Let me know please so I can see how many would be willing to enter before I finalize it.
