Eek!

It's been storming really bad here too lately, whenever it gets really scary and dark my dad makes some joke about dementors or Voldemort and we get funny looks XD
hee hee I never got caught up in the HP craze. My cousin is sooo into it though. He and his wife went to the midnight showing.

I'm going at 3:30 today, hopefully.
so what makes harry potter so epic? People everywhere go crazy over it then deny how fadish it is. I've never read the books or watched the movies so maybe that's why I'm one of the weird ones who doesn't get it.

Uh.. probably? How can you expect to understand what makes it good if you haven't read it?

The writing is immersive and solid, her universe is very detailed and well thought-out, the characters are dimensional, interesting and a good combination of feat and flaw.
I've read good books before with that quality, but most of them nobody's heard of and never got this kind of publicity. But I guess I can't ever understand without reading the books, but really I don't want to get sucked into the mania.

Single books, maybe. Trilogies, perhaps. I've never in my life read an arching series of seven books (most over 500 pages) that consistently maintain this level of full immersion and quality.
I never thought HP was that thought provoking (to me! I've read all 7 though XD), but you cannot deny the quality of her writing and the entertainment value of the books. If you want to call it a fad, i suggest you point yourself over to Twilight, which is not only not thought provoking but also has bad writing >_>
wizard of oz series enraptured me. {shrugs} but each to their own.

I don't like to follow a crowd which is why I'm not into the Twilight series either. There's too much fanfare around it and it scares me away instead of drawing my attention to it.
I think not doing something soley because you don't want to conform is identical to conforming. lol
