All good questions!

-his name was Jaysen before the fire. Afterwards, long after Rhysta had awoken and left, he managed to crawl out of the rubble. He was badly burned and had amnesia, and one word was burned into his memory: Cirrav. So he turned it around and called himself Varric, subsequently wandering off.

So she still only knows him as Jaysen? (therefor if she tried asking for him under that name, would never find him?) Also, if he found her he wouldn't know who she was? -nods-

-the funny thing about Rhysta is that she doesn't have a very well-developed past. The original story was that a group of highschool RPers got sucked into their own RP world. Rhys was a player's new character and he hadn't developed her past yet. So, as far as her Mother's name goes, she was full elf so it would be something complicated and weird...how 'bout Kathalia?

Fair enough, i won't go into detail with her mother. xD

- as a child, she would probably wear more green and blue and more dresses and skirts than she does now, but they would be fairly simple; they weren't rich, especially since her mother was cast out of the tribe for marrying a human.

Yeah, I thought they probably weren't rich, and thought that could i involve into the plot: Rhysta having a fear of the dark? when they first moved in, not having enough money for candles until she fell asleep- the pendant could glow in the dark, comforting her?

- The staff was a gift from her mentor.

I think i want to finish off the short story with Jaysen, well, Verric, naming himself and wandering off. Therefor she won't have met her mentor yet.. although i could hint that he is approaching, ie she ehars movement? -shrugs-

- She had magic, but it was uncontrolled. She could influence things, especially when she got emotional, but didn't know how to focus her power.

So technically she could try and fail to lift the burning wood seperating her from her brother?

- A VERY good question...I will try not to make this too confusing, but feel free to ask for clarification. The pendant is actually only associated with a certain type of magic. Every family in the Cyllianorschiake clan has an identical one, and together they are reservoirs of power that keep an evil dark elf (or rather, kept...) sealed away. If a pendant gets into the wrong hands, the dark elf could escape, as long as a member of the family it was taken from is alive. When the last member of the family that owns a pendant dies, the power of the pendant dissipates and is distributed to the remaining pendants. Thus, all of the Cyllianorschiakes are guardians of this seal.

I understand. But Rhysta herself has no knowledge of what the pendant does?

lol. So many questions. xD But i need to know. -ninja-

Do we know how the fire started? I was thinking maybe some.. mysterious shadow (to be revealed later mayhap?) * could come to start the fire using magic, anonomously. (sp?) xD.. and in that was i could maybe include the ..unknown person/thing reporting to superiors, that it had burned everything and they were all dead..? (only an idea : P )

* Could other people continue storylines that someone else had begun? : )

Songjewel, if I made an ad for your contest part of an image map for my sig, would it still count (or would it be half points, or something)? And if so, would there be a size requirement? Just wondering, because I've been wanting to make one for a while, and I've finally learned how. x3

And... I'm not writing, but I love Rhysta's backstory, and I'm curious... if all the wearers of the pendants die, what happens to the dark elf that (hopefully) would be sealed away? Is there any other way to destroy/disable a pendant?

I'd need to see the image map to decide whether to give half points or full; it all depends on size and readability.

Well, we hope that the families have at least one surviving member to pass on the bloodline. xd If the family is wiped out, The power goes to another live pendant. So, I guess if ALL of them were wiped out, all the power would eventually be stored in one pendant and then when the bearer's family was destroyed the energy would be released and the elf would be freed. Sure the pendants can be destroyed. They are simply highly protected by their own magic; but if can get rid of all the protective spells, the pendant could be easily shattered with a hammer, or by similar means. It's just stone. When that happens, the power of the pendant dissipates just like the family died, but it sends more of a shock through the network (providing an opportunity for glitches in the seal...which happened recently before the fire, oddly enough).

Slightly Eccentric - Well, for the pendant to glow in the dark she would have had to have it...they moved in before her mother gave it to her. But her mom could have cast some minor magic. Everything else is correct - She could have tried to move the debris. Varric wouldn't know her, although she would seem familiar. And she wouldn't recognize him as her brother even if she did meet him (as she eventually does) because of the changes from the fire. Rhysta doesn't know what the pendant does until her mentor tells her about it, which is when she finds out about that dark elf. His name is Cirrav, by the way. I can't tell you how the fire started without ruining part of the plot, but a mysterious shadow/figure works fine. The person reporting to her superiors would be a female dark elf, and she believes that Rhysta is the only one who escaped (and thus is the last of the bloodline).

I think I should probably post these details on Rhysta's bio so everyone can see them. That should keep confusion to a minimum. ^^ The story can be as long as you want. I don't have a size limit for the short story - I assume no one is going to write the novel for me, so any prose story should count.

surprised I'm good with writing. But I have a few questions.

Question 1 - Where is the form for the writing? sweatdrop I think I missed it.

Question 2 - Do we have to have a drawing for the writing? sweatdrop I'm unsure about that.

Question 3 - If you have to have a drawing included with the story then can you pay someone else to draw it or do we have to draw it ourselves? I'm bloody horrible with drawing.

whee Oooh, I thought I had made the form submittable for both. Well, take a look at the updated FAQ; I just added a form for the writing. ^^ And nope, you don't have to draw anything with the writing. Added that onto the end of the FAQ. Thanks for pointing that out!
