A big congradulations to everyone.

I think this may have been the first contest of Sabin's I've not been able to enter. But I did see some old faces, and I'm quite pleased to see the vast improvements from the very first contest... what? 4, 5 yrs ago now?

Very sorry to Sam and Sabin that I was unable to get my pieces for you done. Dunno if I ever will be able to. I'm still having troubles getting pen to paper, and now my tablet's going on me. *grumbles*

But, should time and circumstance allow me, you may each find a gift some day. ^.~

Again, gratz to everyone who won prizes, and to those who didn't, keep this thought in mind:

Each time you enter a contest, do a commission, or even just doodle something for fun, do it for yourself first and others later. Don't let people's words or opinions get to you. If you don't win a prize in a contest, don't use it as a deterent, use it as an excuse to get better!
Set yourself as your idol and always, always strive to be better. smile

WOW! Congrats to everyone. You all did such wonderful work. I am sorry that I missed the ceromony though I really wanted to be here, but RL things came up.

Sam, thank you.

I had alot of fun writing the piece and am speechless that I won best writing. To be honest I really didn't expect to, there are so many very very talented people here. My main goal was to actually finish the piece and have the nerve to enter it, since I have never ever entered a contest before. ( thank you Neo for not letting me give up.) But having won has definitely given me the inspiration to continue writing and not be afraid to put it out there for others to read and enjoy.

Again, Congrats everyone!!

Most Stylin'
Yich

There is a lot to be said about this entry. The thing that is nice about it is that it is a good depiction of Bethany in her days when she just didn't care. She has seen enough to have become jaded and numbed. Her posture and expression give much depth to the image, telling you that her confidence is a hard but ultimately fragile shell. I guess you could call it one of her better days. Beyond that, my favorite part about it is how stylish it is. Crisp lines, vibrant colors, and fantastic swirling smoke make it a professional looking piece. It makes a great desktop image, by the way! That said, I present the new award of 'Most Stylin' to Yich!

Oh my, thank you so much, and congrats to everyone else! heart
b-but bawww, you're too nice ; o ;.. I've never really thought of my works to be stylish, *v* so it's really great to hear! heart and I'm really happy I managed to get her right :'D It was fun drawing her! heart
LOL, it does? redface

and Thanks all, for the compliment crying It means a lot to me heart

Sabin: Ohh thank you for even recognizing my wip! *o*;; -feels unworthy when seeing others' wips *___*;;-

Right...

I'm not gonna make the entire page spammed with 24 large font style texts filled with "OMFG OMG" and stuff like that, I'm not good at it and I had the entire day to handle the new.

As Meowmeowkitty told it, I wake up quite early in the morning to learn the new, and unfortunately was far too late to write a comment then. sweatdrop

What I can say, now, is that I don't know how to thank you, Sabin, Sam for this honnor you give me. I feel deeply honored (I don't find another word ^^;; ) of this consideration and this interest that you gave to my work.

You've run a wonderful contest, and by reading the others's comments I can see that I'm not alone to think this. You both have been so nice, and so kind with everyone that you need to be shown as number one in the category "Art Contest Organisator"

You have some great characters, deep, rich and inspiring. Of course the prices were inspiring too, but the kindness that you were showing during the event, the precision of your answers when someone was asking for more details made the whole difference and made born in your entrants the desir to make something special for you.
I can see it in the originality of many many entries you gets, several of them was just so wonderful of creativity and quite often humor ! No talking about some pieces that share a so deep and so unique atmosphere ! I really hope that you both, at the end, are glad to have run this contest.

Your sweet words during the entire event and the ceremony are a warm hug for me, and it gives me strengh in theses days as I'm now slowly trying to become professionnal.

Thank you also for everyone's kindness and sweet words... Believe me, this morning, by reading all the nice comments around I was near to cry... heart

Thank you again, Sam, Sabin, for giving us so much chances !

So many thanks for the gifts guys !!!
Aww, I didn't make it, not even a nod!. I guess Photoshop is the way to go. Better start saving!
Congratulations everyone.

Just got back from my vacation, and boy what a great one! I must say I am very happy, and congrats to all!!!
Thank you Sam and Sabin for a great contest, having excellent, rich, and interesting characters to draw and your love of my work, and all other artist's work will be cherished always. People like you help me go on to be a better artist and have more confidence in the work I do.
Congrats Gizmo! As soon as I saw that entry, I knew it would be the one to win! Way to go!!!

On with moar sexy arts!

Sexiest

December 2004 Letter
Letter contains choice of OMFG hat or Fire Gauntlet
TekTek Value - 205,000 Gold.

SonicSweeti

It isn't just the subject matter and lack of clothing that makes this piece sexy (though the strategically placed cloth (and strategicaly-placed Sabin!) certainly doesn't hurt wink ) - but the posework is very creative - the interactions between Sabin and Samantha - the interesting posework with Samantha sitting above Sabin, and yet supporting him, kissing is a beautiful scene. She's done a wonderful job with the folds in the fabric, and the mood lighting as well <3.

I wanted to convey an intimate piece where it shows the intense romantic love they have for one another whout being too grapic. I am so glad you liked it.

KuraiKitty
Diamond, nice portrayal of Akella! Congrats on runner-up! :3

Lhance: *collapses from the sheer presence of the piece* o_o Amazing work. Congratulations!

Congrats on Sexiest, SonicSweeti! What a sense of balance and intimacy, all while keeping it completely tasteful! <3

Thanks Kurai ^_^ I have been told im really good at doing tasteful nudity. I enjoy doing it ^_^

RUNNER UP Best CrossoverDarkest

November 2004 Letter
Letter contains choice of BTK hat or Ice Gauntlet
TekTek Value - 85,000 Gold.
Not a lot of crossover entries - but a lot of awesome, dark pieces that more than one needed an award. There will be only one Crossover winner.

SonicSweeti
Sonic Sweeti has a more literally dark piece - from Sabin's haunted expression to the lurking Anju behind him (that you can barely see the grasping claws and chilling smile), shadows curling towards him - another piece with wonderful posing and expression.

Darkest

CoCo Kitty
TekTek Value - 325,000 Gold.

clocktock

I love the intriguing, dark-gothing style of this piece, the attention to detail in the intricate background
and eerie depiction of Sabin in his true form. This is a really intriguing piece because it is at once both tender and creepy - and it makes me think of styles like Edward Gorey and Tim Burton.

This is a wonderful blending of the intricate, flowery Victorian decor and clothing styles along with the darker creepier underside.

eek That was my face when I saw this post. I so happy you liked it. I wanted to draw the anju, but was afraid of messing it up by giving Sabin 6 eyes. So this is what came out of it. The anju's claws were well thought out; so the viewer isnt sure whether to be scared or concerned for what the anju is about to do ^-^ Congrats clocktock!!!

Ritterlich

SonicSweeti - Beautiful setting.
<3
And nice emotion on both pieces as well...
Oh! Same floor setting?

Thanks very much. I enjoy making lighting work with the subject. Romance, I just love illustrating. And yes, same floor setting! Its so you can figure out what Sabin has done, or is about to do in the same room... XD

KuraiKitty
SonicSweeti: Wow! biggrin Congrats again for the Darkest runner-up! I love the Anju's eyes- what a great touch. :3

Thanks a bunch! I wanted him to look as demonic as possible XD

Each of these artists will receive a May 2008 Letter, which is worth about 50k!

SonicSweeti

I really wanted to recognize this entry for SonicSweeti's great linework. Look how precise and clean it is! She did a great job.

There are a few additional entries that I will also recognize after we announce the rest of the prizes, but those will come later. Thanks everyone and we're on to the big prizes!

crying Thank you so much!! Im so honored! I have spent years defining my style, and making my lines and coloring as clean as can be. Ive even had professional comic inkers tell me my line work was good, so Ive just been sticking with it! Im so glad you liked the piece in the end; it was such a fun one to do XDThanks so very much blaugh

Best in "Heroes"

Horns of the Demon
TekTek Value - 2,700,000.

SonicSweeti
This piece is just great! Again, very crisp linework from SonicSweeti, and just a different take from what most people have done. It's more than a bit sexy, no? I absolutely love it. Therefore, I award this piece 1st Place Best in "Heroes!"

Another jaw has dropped; I am utterly stunned that another of my pieces pleased you! I wanted to do an art of this character to show off that he could he calm too. The piece that was the example was stunning, and i dont think im very good at "furries" but Ive been told I draw some sexy furries. This is a piece that will be in my portfolio for a long time; he was just too fun to draw! Thanks so much! Enjoy him!

I did all mine traditionally... and I got something. Don't assume photoshop is going to fix everything. I have seen your art and it is not bad, but maybe you will find photoshop easier to use, I sure don't, it takes me 3 times as long to make something in photoshop. There are a lot of free programs you might want to invest in before buying photoshop, just to see if it really does work better for you. Gimp is one of them and you could also try something like pixlr which is basically an online/browser based version of photoshop.

Sorry to hear you didn't get anything! Don't let it get you down though!!! Don't spend all your hard earned money on Photoshop either though :3

Hope one of those free programs works for you!

Honestly I don't even want to use it period. I'd always would have that feeling that I'm trying to cover something up.

Do him some justice and...
Comment me?
I know what you mean, But using photoshop has its own difficulties, it doesn't necessarily mean you are cutting corners.

Unless you are using filters or a lot of downloaded brushes that will give you grass or leaves or things of that sort with a flick of the mouse I think it is fine. I think as long as you are using it honestly there is no problem. 3nodding

Even that doesn't work. >.< You can tell when someone's using a brush versus someone who actually sat there and drew each and every piece of grass.
I use PS, but that's mostly cause I'm used to it from extended use in school. smile But I still use good ol' pencil and paper first. Nothing is mightier than the pencil!

Not to mention, unless you have someone slapping you over the head telling you the burn and dodge tools are BAD from the beginning, people get lazy and use them when they first begin using photoshop. >.< They have their places, but using them to shade and highlight... *shudder*

I know... I agree with everything you said Mousira... I never said otherwise in my post. I way trying to say I think it is BAD for people to use brushes that just make grass rather than drawing it.

But just because someone uses photoshop it doesn't make them lazy. I never used dodge and burn when I started, but maybe that was because I got my electronic start using oekaki boards and learning how to mix digital colors rather than use built in tools. I see nothing wrong with a capable artist using Photoshop, but I agree that beginners or people just looking to cut corners can and will abuse it.

But since Ephemeral was worried it felt like she would be covering things up with it, I feel that an artist that is going to use it honestly shouldn't feel like photoshop is a crutch or that it is making their art look better than it really is. It doesn't work that way.

A stellar Akella piece! She seems ready to go into battle, and the choices for clothing are really great. I also love the unusual facial colorings. Great job!

Wow, I'm honored thanks a lot

Cha... I apparently misread how you worded that. Sorry.
(I chalk it up to being tired and replying first thing in the morning -.-)

Agreed. No CG program should be a crutch in truth. Each takes its own time to learn and use just like any real media. ^-^
