LOL, bet that makes it harder to use doesn't it? i've been trying to get the intuos 3 for christmas from ebay (cuz i'm a cheapo), but i KEEP MISSING THE DEADLINES!!!! WHY!!! for example, 2 of the auctions i had my eyes on were to end midnight on wednesday, and that's what i reminded my self to do, but somehow, a day slipped by without me knowing, and i realized this too late to make the end time DX!!

but ANYWAYS, is that why ure able to make the hair strands soooooo smooth looking?? or is it the programm?? cuz in PS, all the long lines end up choppyish...

I use Painter IX... it has really good tracking. Photoshop doesn't work for me. It doesn't pick up my tablet's pressure sensativity, so it makes everything come out gross and choppy. I wish I could use PS, because that'd make effects a lot easier... ><

No, it's not... Believe me, nothing is a sure bet in an art contest. xD; This is from a few slaps in the face I've gotten in the past.

You can spend 50+ hours on a contest and get all high-and-mighty thinking you've got it in the bag, but in reality it's all about what the judge(s) likes the best. It doesn't matter if everyone else thinks it will win, in the end it's completely the contest runner who decides. Maybe it's the piece that nobody suspects that wins the grand prize, but the person who judges liked it the most. So even if you make a piece and feel like someone has bested you before the contest has ended, just remember never rule yourself out! Nobody knows what the judges are looking for until its ended.

I think... because of that, contests are really a great way to humble yourself and figure out who you are, whether or not it's greed or love of art that really motivates you is something you find out in the end.

I agree with Sil. I saw a crappy anime CG win 10 mil pure once. What REALLY got me was that that artist was up for possible art theft for stealing a layout and a lot of poses from Kurot. Still, she changed a bit of the layout and poorly CGed the eyeballed poses. And won 10 mil. And I spent freaking 20 hours on a full-blown couple CG with a VINEYARD for a BG.

awwww... I was in that contest too, and while they did steal the layout, the poses weren't eyeballed. ;O I didn't think it should have won since the layout was stolen originally, but I'm not too upset about it. And it definitely wasn't crappy. : D

but yeah... I've seen plenty of extremely unexpected winners in my day. *sounds old* xD

cyclonealchemist, hehehe. xD I will practice what I preach, so I do hope to be picked... and if I lose (which is the likely path, what with the competition in this contest) I will be disappointed, but it's a contest, there's no guarantee for anything. Although it's impossible for anyone to be completely objective, I really try hard to dislodge my feelings from art contests so that if I lose I won't be like, depressed or anything. Then if I win I go crazy and run around the house naked. xDD

That is true. I guess I look for skill over anything else, really. Maybe it's just me xd
