Reminds me that I need a new camera... My camera I have now is prehistoric, eats batteries like rediculous, and I've lost the usb cord to connect it to my computer. Plus for my trip in a couple months I really want a terrific new digital camera. Anyone have any suggestions for something between $200-300? And something portable/small, but good quality. 3nodding

And if you're looking for a decent midrange camera, I've always been fond of the lower-end Canon PowerShot range. The batterly life is admittedly not spectacular, but our old A75 took standard AA's, so not exactly a hassle to find replacements if you're on vacation. It takes very sharp, clear photos, has a good macro mode, good colour balance, and isn't terribly noisy. However, it's not great in low-light situations, unless you're able to use a flash.

Until I got my Nikon D40x (which is a digital SLR, wouldn't recommend it for everyday use), I used an HP Photosmart that came free with my laptop for general mucking around. It's honestly not the best camera ever (kind of noisy even at ISO 100 or 200) and sometimes the white balance would go wonky, but it had a quick response time, good battery life, and the aluminium housing is very durable. If you could pick one of those up for under $100, I'd say it's a good dicking around camera.

I've also heard good things about the Fuji Finepix line, but have no personal experience with them.
