Artistic Licence says:
|| Hey, I've been there. I know it really bites. You look around at all those people whose shops are overflowing, when their art is 10 times worse than yours and more expensive, and you think, "Oh damn, I can do this no problem." And when it doesn't quite work out like that, you feel lower than those kids selling badly scanned crooked stick figures. I'm not really sure what to say that would help, but I've learned something important from being let down in every shop I make: You're either an artist or you're not. If you are an artist, then you will find a million ways to improve your art, even when everybody else says it's terrible, and eventually it will be amazing, though you might never acknowledge that and just keep on working. But if you aren't an artist, there's no good shortcut. If you let yourself give up when other people dislike your art, or if you aren't committed to it, if you don't put your heart into it, it will show. It's important to think about what you want when dealing with such a passionate form of expression, just like in any relationship or serious endeavor. Always a pleasure to see your art! |
