• No plagiarism. All work must be 100% your original artwork, no traces or copies. If I find out you've done this, you will be disqualified, drawn and quartered, not to mention reported for art theft.
  
  
• The artwork entered must have been created by you, for this event and featuring one of the characters below. Do not submit previously drawn artwork of my own or similar-looking characters.
  
  
• No drama. This means no discouraging posts to other artists, no whining about how you 'have no chance', no whining about the length of the contest, and no complaining if you are unhappy with the results of the contest. Once the winners are chosen, I expect no poor sportsmanship, and if I see it on part of one of the winners, your prize will be revoked. Harsh, I know, but seriously. Don't be a drama-llama.
  
  
• Any images posted after the deadline will be disqualified, no ifs ands or buts. If you have submitted a WIP, you will be expected to finish the final piece by the WIP deadline, with the option of asking for a single seven-day extension at the end of that period if needed. Judging will take place after all finished pictures have been submitted or until the WIP deadline has passed, whichever comes first.

Rommie Tao is an OC for the FIREFLY universe. She has appeared in two Firefly-based RPGs I have participated in, and is by far my favorite original character. Rommie is the pilot of a cargo ship called Fenghuang. The ship was attained through mysterious means by her old war buddy, Jed Walker, who hired her to be the new pilot once he took the mantle of captain.

AGE: 27
GENDER: Female
HEIGHT: 5'9''
WEIGHT: Around 130 lbs.
HAIR COLOR: Dark brown with bright red streaks
EYE COLOR: Brown
SKIN COLOR: Caucasian
BUILD: Toned.

APPEARANCE: Andromeda is just above average height with dark hair cut short in a boyish, spunky style and highlighted with bright-red streaks. Due to the fact that she’s a Core-worlder, she’s likely of mixed Caucasian and Asian ancestry. She has deep brown eyes, a charming smile and a slim, athletic figure thanks to military training and an active lifestyle (read 'jobless drifter'); as such, she is quite easy on the eyes.. At least, when her temper is in check. She has the look of a tomboy about her, but she'll fancy herself up if she feels it’s worth the effort.

CLOTHING STYLE: The only article of clothing she must have at all times is her jacket. She still wears her 'browncoat' from the war; a waist-length leather flight-jacket, but it has since been dyed blood red. She usually wears fitted t-shirts and tank tops, ranging in style from plain white to patterns and graphic prints, and comfortable, sometimes worn-looking pants in browns or black. As far as footwear is concerned, some type of hiking or work boot is good.

She has a shotgun holster harnessed to her back or strapped to her leg (whichever is easiest. She's flexible about it.), and her belt is filled with rounds.

WEAPON OF CHOICE: The 'Verse is a dangerous place, and Rommie knows it; so she keeps a shotgun strapped to her back with various types of shells in pouches along her belt, all of which she won’t hesitate to use in all less-than-civilized interactions. Hey! A girl’s gotta protect herself on the Rim. She uses a variety of rounds though, including non-lethal shot and gas canisters so that no one can say she isn’t humane. Besides, Rommie doesn’t need guns to solve disagreements; she’s got a pair of perfectly good fists for that! Feel free to add the weaponry if you like, but if not, there’s no problem.

BACKGROUND: Rommie Tao was born on one of the central planets; Londinium, the military center of the 'Verse. Originally on the side of the Alliance due to her ties to the Core, her guilt from the bombing of Shadow caused her to go turncoat, and she became a fighter pilot for the Independents. When the Unification War was won by the Alliance, Rommie became lost for a time, having made herself an orphan and a traitor by her own choices. She took random freelance piloting jobs to make ends meet, from ordinary delivery girl to the chauffeur to a famous Core-worlder, known for his (slightly skewed) war documentaries available on the Cortex. Eventually she was found by Jed and the Fenghuang crew on the frozen planet of St. Albans, where she was participating in a "friendly" bar fight with the locals.

PERSONALITY: Even before the war, Rommie had a temper. Her call-sign was chosen for her by her friends; Spitfire, a name she's still known by to some. Ever since the war she's had a chip on her shoulder and tends to lash out with anger and more than a few curses at anyone that gets on her nerves. Those that know her know not to take it seriously, and she usually calms down after a few minutes. When she isn't blowing up in someones face she's generally a pleasant person, but she talks like a sailor and she can hold a drink like one, too. She can be a little guarded and cynical should someone try to probe far enough into her past.. Especially if she’s been drinking enough whiskey at the time.

>>RACHEL
If Rommie is my favorite character, Rachel is a close second. Rachel is an OC for a comic book-inspired original RPG called "Heroes of Paradigm" (the other characters of which can be found in the following post). Rachel is part of 'Silver Shield'; a group of people with special powers who were hired to protect the city of Paradigm; a fictional place in New York of the not-so-distant future.

NAME: Rachel Drake
ALIAS: "Basilisk"
AGE: 24
GENDER: Female
HEIGHT: 5'10''
WEIGHT: 130 lbs.

HAIR COLOR: Black
EYE COLOR: Pale Green
SKIN COLOR: Light
BUILD: Muscular, but lean. She isn't an amazon, just a woman with some definition.

APPEARANCE: Rachel has short, black hair in a sleek style. Her skin is somewhat pale and her eyes are a light green with slitted irises, a permanent feature of her dragon powers. She can make scales appear on her body, ranging in color from almost completely transparent to green with hints of violet. When in full dragon form, her scales are green and/or violet (think like the feathers of a raven or a grackle, how they shine in different colors depending on light and direction). (See Powers.)

CLOTHING STYLE: Her costume is made up of a sleeveless black leather vest and black leather pants, with green piping and purple scale details in various places. (See Character Sheet Below.)

When out of costume, Rachel chooses a comfortable and modern-conservative clothing style, including sweaters, dress pants, and blouses in an array of neutral tones. She's not above wearing dresses if the situation calls for it; however, such a situation has not come up, as of yet.

POWERS: Rachel has the ability to create fireballs in her palms and toss them at her enemies, as well as an immunity to the fire's heat, either because of her dragon curse, or because of a healing factor that allows her a tolerance to certain wounds. She has the ability of super strength that she uses to break through doors, throw cars and other such tasks. And finally, she has the ability to morph into a dragon and maintain the change for up to a half-hour. She rarely uses this ability, either because of the cumbersome size, discomfort, or simply because of the effort it takes to make the transformation. Instead, she tends to partially morph, sometimes to cover her body with scales for extra protection, make use of the wings for scouting, or to form dragon-esque claws on her hands to give her strikes a little extra oomph. The dragon form is a western dragon version with four legs and a pair of draconic wings. I encourage interpretation on design aspects of her dragon form; I've never had a set idea for it.

BACKGROUND: Rachel has spent most of her life looking into the past for clues to break an ancient curse that has plagued the Drake family further into history than she can trace. It all started when Rachel’s ancestor slayed a great dragon, and gained its powers.. and weaknesses. In order to achieve any sort of normalcy, Rachel must find a way to break the curse.. Even if lately she has seen it to be more of a gift than she ever imagined.

Born in London to a wealthy family with deep European roots, Rachel has never-the-less rarely settled for long, instead choosing to travel all over the world in search of her past. One such adventure led her 'across the pond' to the shining city of Paradigm, where Rachel was recruited alongside her new superfriends after helping them deal with an alien invasion that had suddenly arrived.

PERSONALITY: Despite her flashy abilities, Rachel has a somewhat dull personality. Some have even gone so far as to call her 'boring' (::coughJakecough:: ). She's a history buff, and in her spare time she enjoys perusing Tolwyn Manor's expansive library or quietly sipping coffee in the den. When on the job, Rachel is the voice of caution amongst a sea of heroic optimism. Rachel is usually the one to expect the worst, and while others would like to rush into action (::coughJakecough:: ), Rachel is known to over think things.

RELATED CHARACTERS - Characters that may appear with Rachel:
- Adam: Teammates. Adam is the leader of Silver Shield, and as such Rachel respects his authority. She is currently living on his estate, as are all of the other members of the team. Despite occasionally disagreeing with Adam's decisions, she trusts his judgement and usually goes along with whatever he decides.
- Max: Teammates. Max, Rachel and Adam were the first members of Silver Shield. Rachel and Max rarely have conversations with each other, do to most of his time being split between his hobbies and his girlfriend. Rachel still considers him a friend, and they've been through a few tough scrapes together.
- Jake: Teammates. Jake is probably the person on the team that Rachel is closest to. Despite being each other's complete opposite, they seem to get along fairly well, and are often teamed together. Jake has taken to calling Rachel 'Scales' as opposed to her name or alias. Whether they consider each other anything more than good friends has yet to be discovered.
- Nicole: Teammates. Despite her legally emancipated status, Rachel still considers Nicky a kid and treats her accordingly. Though she appreciates Nicky's contributions to the team, the straight-laced Rachel is sometimes less than thrilled by Nicky's occasional displays of playfulness.
- Vissrikr: Alter-ego-of-sorts. (Vissrikr is an alternate form, and thus would not appear with Rachel in canon, but if you want to do a 'good and evil' image, I'm okay with it).

>>VISSRIKR
Vissrikr is the dragon entity inside Rachel. Because he has no solid form himself, Vissrikr is more of an 'evil Rachel' than a separate character.

APPEARANCE: As Vissrikr, Rachel wears an amulet in the shape of a dragon stabbed with a spear; this is important, as the amulet is what allows Vissrikr to take over. Vissrikr has perma-claws and scales, especially around the eyes, and the whites of her eyes are now black. Her usually kept appearance is now scruffy, and her hair looks messy and wild.

CLOTHING STYLE: Vissrikr detests his human vessel, so he usually takes no particular pride in its trappings. Thus, whatever Rachel is wearing, Vissrikr will wear. Though when Vissrikr first arrived, "he" was also wearing an old brown cloak. Given prolonged control of Rachel's body, I could also see him putting on medieval style armor (hearkening back to 'the good old days'), or something to protect his 'pathetic, frail human body'. Take some artistic license, biggrin

BACKGROUND: After some time with the group, Rachel decided to pursue a lead she had discovered regarding an amulet that supposedly had the power to 'free the dragon from the mortal body'. However, it turned out that the amulet was a tool to awaken the spirit of the dragon who was slayed by her ancestor so long ago.. And allow him control of her body, using it to enact his vengeance on humanity.

Vissrikr used the opportunity to his full advantage, and began wreaking havoc on the European landscape before being teleported into the alien Khorin's Galactic Tournament. Needless to say, he wasn't pleased by Khorin's interference with his evil plans. Though death was only an optional means of victory in the tournament, Vissrikr delighted in extinguishing all of his opponents, including almost killing Silver Shield's own Max Reynard.

The 'Vissrikr' entity was eventually dispelled from Rachel when Syren, another member of Silver Shield, was forced to fight the possessed Rachel in the tournament, and subsequently destroyed the amulet that bound her.

Rachel is now back to normal (or, as normal as it gets when you can turn into a dragon) and living with the others in Paradigm once more.. Though what exactly became of Vissrikr, and whether he is gone for good, is unknown..

PERSONALITY: Vissrikr is the antithesis of Rachel. He is wild and aggressive like an animal, though he is also sentient. He hates humanity, and finds humans inferior to his kind (and possibly a nice snack in-between mealtimes.. Though he hasn't done any eating of people since he became trapped in Rachel, thankfully). He is arrogant, amoral, homicidal and a megalomaniac bordering on insanity. In other words, he's your typical Super-villain.

APPEARANCE: Kindly facial features, ready smile. Not terribly handsome, but has an overall "nice guy" aura.

CLOTHING STYLE: When not suited up, Adam dresses in warm clothing, usually a cardigan, tweed jacket, and trousers, an outfit that gives him a very 'professorly' air.

His costume, however, is a suit of articulated battle armor, grey-brown in color with accents in a luminescent light purple. The chest emblem is of similar purple, a stylized bird shape superimposed on a ring. The back of the armor has a built-in jetpack and a pair of collapsible articulated wings that are designed midway between a bird's and a glider's. The 'bones' of the wings will be in the armor's base grey-brown tone, while the flight surfaces of them will be in the purple. The forearm guards of the armor have slot-like launchers on them, into which items can be slotted and then fired, in much the same manner of (but not the exact mechanism of) a crossbow. The helmet might have some avian styling, but it would be more suggestive than detailed. All in all, the armor fills out Adam's slender frame into a strong appearance rather than be bulky, this suit is built to fly.

POWERS: Adam has the ability to generate a glowy, purple metal called photanium. As long as he keeps physical contact with his creation, it will stay solid and practically impenetrable. However, once he removes his touch, the photanium quickly becomes unstable. He can use it in a number of ways, from creating shields, boxes, or even projectiles he can shoot at the enemy.

BACKGROUND: Adam Tolwyn is a child of both wealth and civic responsibility, a genius radiological researcher who has had to try and rebuild his body after a nuclear accident left him barely alive and needing a exoskeletal frame to even stand. When he discovered a superpower - the ability to create a luminescent purple metal with many of the properties of titanium - he and a mechanical engineer turned his exoframe into the first model of a battle armor that could protect his frail state of health at the same time. I suppose you could say, "think Iron Man with a Green Lantern's attitude".

PERSONALITY: Adam's a good guy, plain and simple. He was raised with money, but also with strong ethics and a healthy exposure to the human race at its best and worst. He's a hero because he genuinely wants to help - and help in ways that will make a lasting difference, and that dedication to doing right has resulted in his being stuck with leadership of his team. His reserves of patience do have limits, but often as not he can 'big brother' his way through most of the frustrations of command. Adam understands that human beings have failings, but also believes in the mythic hero and hopes that he and his team can inspire ordinary people to create a better world.

POWERS: Technopathy - The ability to control nearby machines and computer systems. - Doesn't look like much since it's mental control.
Electricity attacks - Ability to generate large amounts of high voltage electricity and us it to attack enemies - appears like flashy arcs or balls of electricity.
Electric Travel - Ability to form into a stream of electricity and travel through computer systems and networks - looks like he becomes pure electricity and vanishes into nearby computer networks.

PERSONALITY: Upbeat and fun loving, very creative and intelligent, problem solver, doesn't take the lead but doesn't hesitate to make suggestions or point out problems with strategy. Not prone to rash action unless a friend is in trouble. Easy going, easy to get along with.

His light brown hair is trimmed short; not a buzzcut (there's more on the sides and top than that), but it would fall under military regulation length if not for his sideburns, which extend down to the bottoms of his ears.

CLOTHING STYLE: Off duty, he's primarily a T-shirts and jeans guy, favoring darker shades, black, and lots of blue, and wears his black leather biker jacket fairly regularly. His on-duty costume is a black full-body suit, trimmed with blue, along with black and blue gloves and boots (similar to the costumes worn by the X-Men in the movies, minus the X motifs and with more color).

POWERS: When using his energy powers, his hands are enveloped by a glowing, shimmering blue energy, and with his telekinesis he can lift objects several hundred pounds in weight. He can also use telekinesis to create forcefields around himself and others.

PERSONALITY: Joker, prankster, showoff. Everybody loves him, but he's the only one who will admit it. Jake takes almost nothing seriously, and peppers his dialogue liberally with one-liners and pop culture references. He does have a more serious side, but he hates displaying it, and while it isn't easy to make him so, he can get surprisingly angry if agitated enough.

Another super-ability she possesses is to turn her entire body into water, or even vapor, thus becoming completely invisible.

NAME: Hillary Iden (reference picture)
RACE: Vampire

APPEARANCE: She's very pale, of course, being a vampire, and has fairly sizable, noticable fangs (not that they stick out of her mouth, but they're not little needles). Her ears are not only pointed, but also a bit on the long side. As far as outfits go, the ones in the pictures I have of her are a good indication of the sort of stuff she likes to wear. Where specifics are concerned, I'd like for her to definitely be wearing some sort of collar or choker. And if you're not squeamish about weapons, it would be cool for her to have a spear as well; it's just a simple one with a dark wooden shaft (it's the same one as this one), and it's about half a foot longer than she is tall. It's not hers, but rather what Vlad 'lives' in so to speak, so she doesn't fight with it or anything. What she's doing with it is up to you.

She does NOT have slit pupils - they are normal.

BACKGROUND/PERSONALITY: History-wise...hmm. Well, to make a long story very short, Iden used to be a relatively normal college student (a history major), albeit a very reclusive one; she avoided really interacting with people as much as she could. But then she came into possession of an old spearhead, and given the task of researching it, she was very surprised when, a few weeks later, she wound up with Dracula's ghost in her apartment. XD; As far as their relationship goes, she is the more submissive of the two - but not some weak little thing without a backbone. Rather than an alpha to omega sort of relationship, it's more like alpha to beta, to put it in wolf terms.

She is usually cheerful and optimistic, and of the opinion that things always work out in the end.

NOTES: Iden is capable of shapeshifting. Fox is her preference, in which case she is cross-colored (2 3). She is also capable of turning into a wolf, in which case she is light gray.

NAME: Vlad III Dracula/Tsepesh (reference picture)

APPEARANCE: Like Iden, he's very pale, of course, being a vampire, and has fairly sizable, noticable fangs (not that they stick out of his mouth, but they're not little needles). His ears are not only pointed, but also a bit on the long side. As for clothes, just sort of go on his ref pic. Things like the cloak and gloves aren't necessary, but the rest is pretty much what he usually wear. You can put him in more modern clothes if you like, but if you do, they should be relatively simple, preferably with at least a little 'period' look to them. He's quite sophisticated, so he wouldn't be wearing anything...crazy.

In his wolf form, Vlad is a very dark brown; although not the same solid color all the way through, but darker and lighter in some places, like a normal wolf (something like this, although he doesn't range to nearly so light). His eyes stay their same red color. When it comes to size, he's actually capable of making himself larger or smaller, but he tends to prefer a standard-to-large size for a wolf.

He does NOT have slit pupils - they are normal.

BACKGROUND: What to say? In short, Vlad's a combination of the historical and the mythological/folkloric (yes, with a bit of Stoker thrown in, at least where his powers are concerned), as well as some things I slid in myself. After he was killed by the youngest of his sons, his spirit became trapped in the head of the spear he was killed with, where he stayed for several centuries before Iden woke him up, as it were. For awhile, he was an actual ghost, but after a time became solid and 'real,' for all intents and purposes alive again...well, as much as a vampire can be, anyway.

NOTES: He considers Iden to be 'his' (please don't mistake this to be in a slave-type sense, though), and tends to be extremely possessive/protective. He is the more dominant and aggressive of the two. Counter to Iden's optimism, he's more of a cynic and realist.

The diary most of his story was kept in got eaten by Gaia and never spat back out, unfortunately. But here are a couple of actual RPs:

VLAD/IDEN RELATIONSHIP NOTES: I think, maybe, it's a fitting to say at least a little bit about the relationship Vlad and Iden have (a good thing to know about, if you're drawing a couple pic of them). Initially, it was a very volatile, antagonistic sort of relationship, with lots of pushing and pulling on both sides - and biting, on his. It's fair to say that Vlad 'started it,' and had and still has the advantages (bigger, stronger...scary), but they're both really good at pushing each other's buttons. They used to fight on a near-constant basis - including physically - but have long since settled down. Real fights are now only occasional, mostly replaced by more playful ones. It's still a very intense and physical relationship, with mutual dependence, strong enough that it's extremely unlikely they would ever split up.

Iden readily admits to being in love with him, but things on Vlad's end aren't so clear. He does certainly care for her in some fashion, though, and takes care of her with affection when she needs it. He calls her 'iubita' - 'sweetheart' - and she sometimes calls him 'Drac,' which was originally intended to annoy him. He is often both frustrated and amused by some of the things she does and says, most of which can be chalked up to youth and naivete, and will accordingly remind her of how foolish and stupid she can be sometimes.

NAME: Adrienne Seref-Korzha ("Adi" ) [ref]

RACE: Half-werewolf
AGE: Appears to be 17

HAIR: Straight, shoulder-length white, with some black streaking

APPEARANCE: Adrienne is furred in most of the same places as her father, except for the stomach patch, and has the same leg type. Her fur is mostly white, however, save for a few black patches here and there. She has a small pair of pink-feathered wings - but instead of real feathers, they're made entirely out of a gummi-candy substance that tastes like cherry. She usually wears exactly the sort of thing you see in her ref, black-dyed leather loincloth and top, adorned with feathers and beads/semi-precious stones, and a pink bow in her tail (the bow originates from a joke Alex made about tying ribbons in Orin's fur).

BACKGROUND: The result of a happy mistake from when Desiderio and his host (a willing sacrifice to fuel the god's rebirth), Alex, were still two separate souls in one body, and Alex continued her relationship with her werewolf lover, Orin. Alex and Rio are now one and the same, however, and so Rio is pretty much the mother in the odd little family. Adi's father, Orin, is an aoide in addition to being a werewolf - the ageless servant of a god. Orin specifically is the gardener to the God of the Hunt, Eamnonn, and Adrienne has inherited his green thumb, and is very often dirty as a result.

PERSONALITY: Generally sweet and kind-hearted, she is nonetheless very spunky. As a child, she had a penchant for biting when she was angry, but she's grown out of that for the most part (unless the object of her annoyance is her twin brother). Adi is flirtatious and full of self-confidence - what else would you expect from a child of the God of Love?

RELATIVES:
A very loving family, though of course there is a certain amount of sibling rivalry between Adi and her brother.
Oringo Llamas (father): gardener and second-in-command to Eamnonn, God of the Hunt. He is permanently stuck between forms as a result of an accident; the bloodstains on his hands are also permanent. Does not wear clothes.
Mariana Alexandra Korzha/Desiderio (mother): Alex was a jaded young vampire who became the sacrifice for Desiderio, the God of Love, to be reborn. They existed as two souls in one body for a time, and continued to do so after Rio became the dominant soul, until finally they merged and became one soul. The body remained female, which is how Adi and Kin happened.
Kinsley Seref-Korzha (brother): Kin is Adi's cocky twin brother, and very taken with the idea of being "the best." Unlike his father and sister, he is uninterested in plants.

Eden Aetherea is my Dervish (D/E) from the MMORPG Guild Wars. Though I have an array of Guild Wars characters, Eden quickly became my favorite. Her name was meant to be a play on the two prayers of the dervish; earth and wind.

NAME: Eden Aetherea

APPEARANCE: Eden has mid-length, silver hair that falls in waves across her shoulders, and soft amber eyes. Her skin is tanned to a lovely shade of bronze thanks to the bright Istani sun. Eden has a very athletic build, due to the rigorous challenges she faces as she defends her country. She wears the typical robes of her Dervish counterparts, dyed in a mix of colors to resemble a deep navy blue, but she forgoes the hood, preferring practicality over piety. Despite being a battle-hardened soldier, Eden's features are soft, with full lips and bright eyes.

CLOTHING STYLE: Eden wears Elite Sunspear 15k Armor (Black + Silver dyed). The dye makes it appear the color of a dark wash jean. (See reference images below.)

WEAPON OF CHOICE: Eden wields an ornate scythe. I don't mind if you include this or not, but if you choose to, please see the reference images below.

PERSONALITY: Eden is a natural leader. As savior of Elona (::ahem:: In my game she was, at least! D; ), she inspired confidence in her friends and quickly rose in the Sunspear ranks (or, farmed the ranks.. you know, whatever). Eden is a serious, passionate fighter. As a Dervish class, she has a respect for nature and for life, and sometimes lets her feelings and her merciful nature get in the way of what needs to be done.. At least when fighting her fellow mortals. When conquering abominations to the gods, she is far less forgiving.

Balar Santurus is an original character for the Star Wars universe; specifically the Knights of the Old Republic era. He is a Jedi and an Echani; a race of human-like aliens skilled in martial combat.

APPEARANCE: Balar has silver-blue eyes and medium-length silvery-white hair that he keeps tied back, though the occasional strands escape and frame his face. He stands six feet tall and has an athletic build. He has youthful, somewhat soft features, being that he's only eighteen years old, though he has a strong, masculine jawline.

CLOTHING STYLE: Balar wears traditional, boring Jedi robes in earthy colors. Darn those Jedi and their dress code! D8< His robes appear a little more stiff and pressed than the robes of the prequels, and his chrome lightsaber hilts are fastened securely to his standard-issue utility belt. Feel free to take some artistic liberties with the details; I doubt he'd get thrown out of the Order for a few decorative designs, ;D

WEAPON OF CHOICE: A lightsaber, obviously. Actually, he uses a pair of matching sabers with solid chrome hilts and ice-blue blades. Dual-wielding ftw!

PERSONALITY: Balar is very much the emo teen. He attempts to mask his emotions with his training, but amongst more experienced knights it's clear that he doesn't have the discipline that he should. He's very much shaken by the death of his master, and at times allows his grief to cloud his judgement. Still, he's eager to please and to be accepted by the Jedi, although he channels it in an irritating way; appearing as a know-it-all by quoting rules and tenets to far more experienced Jedi, much to their annoyance. He can sometimes come off as a hypocrite, extremely judgemental of those who don't follow the rules, yet himself hardly being the model student. Clearly the young padawan has much to learn.

BACKGROUND: Balar was a difficult student at the Jedi temple, his unpredictable emotions and strong ties to his heritage put him at odds with the teachings of the Jedi. His master was an Ithorian named Montra Nadau, a pacifist like her kind. This didn't sit well with Balar, who as an Echani had combat in his blood. However, the match turned out to be beneficial to him as Montra's soothing personality calmed his martial, sometimes violent instincts. All of this changed when Montra was killed during a diplomatic mission gone wrong. Now Balar must struggle against his emotions and urges without a proper foil, at a very awkward time in his training. No longer a padawan, not yet a knight, you could say. ;D

Why is the contest so long?
To ensure everyone has a chance both to see the contest and to complete a finished drawing for it. I know how disappointing it can be when you come in too late in the game and think you'll never make the deadline, and I'd like to give everyone a good chance.

Can I enter more than once?
YES. You can enter as many different pieces of art as you like. Draw as many characters as you like! Though one piece of art can only win a single prize, you are eligible to win a prize for every piece you submit. <333

Can I draw all the characters together in one big picture?
Considering some characters are mine, some belong to others, and they all exist in various stories/universes/whatever, I would prefer if you didn't draw the characters with anyone but those listed in the 'RELATED CHARACTERS' section.

Can I add canon characters from Firefly or Star Wars to Rommie or Balar's pictures?
Nope. Neither has had any interaction with canon characters, and it would be kind of hard for my character to be the focus if Mal Reynolds or Darth Revan were standing there, don't you think?

Can I add canon Guild Wars NPCs to Eden's pictures?
I'm actually fine with this. Eden has had first-hand interaction with most (if not all) of the major players of Guild Wars, having beaten all the campaigns. Heroes are especially welcome since I usually have them on my team. Zhed, Vekk and Dunkoro are my current favorites, but I use them all. As a dervish, she is incredibly faithful to the gods (her personal favorite being Dwayna), so you can include their avatars or shrines if you so wish. But again, I must stress that Eden needs to be in the spotlight.

Can I add non-canon Guild Wars characters to Eden's pictures, for example, my own?
No thanks. Not that I think your character isn't great, but Eden doesn't know them. D;

I don't like guns/lightsabers! Do I have to draw them?
Nope! As stated, they aren't required. Though I admit I might be impressed by those who take the initiative, if you don't feel up to the task or have some moral stance against drawing guns, they aren't necessary to the character and, in the end, what matters most to me is the whole picture, not one or two details.

Do you prefer one style of art to others?
I guess it depends on the character.. But honestly, I don't. I love all art, from anime to realism to western comics to cartoon style. If I can see the skill and effort put into the piece, and most importantly, if it conveys the likeness of one of my characters, then it doesn't really matter to me how you draw it. Have fun!

Do you allow collaborations?
Yes, though the entry will still only be eligible for a single prize, and I am not responsible for splitting up the prize for you.. That's something you'll have to decide between yourselves. If posting a collaboration, please note who I should send the prize to in your entry, so there's no bickering about it afterwards.

I'm confused! Can you clarify (blank)?
If there's something you don't understand, post your questions in the thread. If they aren't answered within 48 hours, feel free to send me a PM. I only ask that you post first, as my inbox is rather full.

Who will be judging this contest?
For the Personal Favorite categories, myself and Meep will be the only judge for our respective categories. For the 'best of' Meep's characters, she will be the judge, with help from consultants if she so desires. For all other categories, I will be the judge with consulting opinions from a few of my online friends. Said friends will NOT be able to enter themselves, in an effort to preserve fairness.

Can I do an artistic nude?
- For Aris' Characters (and HoP): Personally, I'm not really a fan of n***s, artistic or otherwise. If you really must do a nude, I request that all bits be covered.

- For Meepfur's Characters: Artistic nude is fine.

Can I do a custom MLP as an entry?
- For Aris' Characters (and HoP): Hrm. I'd have to say no. No offense to you, it's just not what I'm looking for. XD;

- For Meepfur's Characters: Yes! Meep likes teh ponies. <3

Do you accept entries in the form of fanfiction?
No, sorry. Though I appreciate good writing, I'm only looking for visual art for this contest.

These prizes are a little unbelievable. Is this legit? Where's the beef proof?
While there is no inventory display in the thread, if you want to see the prizes with your own eyes, you can find a display here. I can't give you any further proof of my 'legitimacy' aside from that, only to say that I've been on Gaia since August '03, I have spent three months working on the references for this contest and will spend another seven bumping and promoting it, and I can only hope that the effort I put into this would give me some form of credibility. If you're still uneasy at the prospect of entering, all I can tell you is good day, and I hope that you find success in other contests. ^_^
