Questions

Q. How long will this contest run?
A. Two Months. Maximum extension will be two weeks.

Q. How long will the judging take?
A. I would hope no more than a few days, unless there are complications. This will become clearer as the end of the contest nears...

Q. Who will be judging this contest?
A. Myself and Zienkyer, who is awesome and must be respected. xd

Q. What media is allowed? For example, can I write a story or a poem?
A. For this contest I will be only be accepting art and dolls/avatar edits. Sorry guys, no stories, banners, or poetry for this one!

Q.What media do you prefer?
A. Honestly? I prefer most styles and colouring techniques; I have no preference between traditional and CG. My favorite drawing style is anime/realism but I like well-drawn chibis as well. ^^ It really depends on the subject matter of the picture. And by the way, I love scenes or anything with a lot of subtle meaning to it!

Q. Is there an entry fee?
A. No.

Q. Is there a minimum number of overall entries?
A. Nope. Even if only one person enters, they will win the prize. xd

Q. What will you do with the entries after the contest?
A.I will upload them to the photobucket account I use to display all the art I have recieved - I also may print them out in order to stick them to the wall of my bedroom. I may also use them in my signature from time to time. In no circumstance will I ever claim them as my own work.

Q. Will you accept entries that go over the PG-13 Gaia guidelines?
A. Yes, as long as it is not too graphic. If you have an idea you're not sure about, PM me with it and I'll let you know. Hopefully we would be able to work something out! =)

Q. Does my entry have to be a fullbody?
A. By no means! It can be anything - headshot, halfshot, whatever! ^^ A fulllbody piece will not automatically win, just for being a fullbody.

Q. How will the entrys be judged?
A. Several factors - artistic ability, accuracy to the character, appropriateness of the scene (if any), expression, colouring (if any), anatomy...it's a lot of things, so don't assume that an uberCGed piece will win for sure, as I may think the scene itself is not appropriate for Valai.

Q. I have a question not answered here...can I ask?
A. Sure. ^^ Just post it in the thread and I will be glad to answer it!

Rules

General

1. Please do not advertise in the thread without permission. The only acceptions are posting code to affiliate; if you do please link back to here from your own contest. ^^

2. Please feel free to hang around and chat. I love art and I love getting to know artists.

3. I may add new rules at any time if I feel that I have neglected something.


Entry Specific

1. Each entry may only win one prize. However you may enter as many pieces as you desire.

2. You may not plagerise. Should go without saying...

3. To be eligable your entry must have the main subject matter as my character, Valai.

4. Please sign your entry with your name (or stamp, etc..) but please don't heavily watermark...anything unusuable won't be accepted!

5. Use the form supplied for your final entry in order to avoid confusion. If you wish to post a preview of your piece that is unfinished please do not use the form, just link it and say if you would like comments.

6. All entries must, if produced on paper, be scanned, not taken with a digital camera. This is following R&C official guidelines on art.

7. You may collaborate with someone else on a piece; just be sure to put both names on the application form and let me know who did what!

8. You may PM your entry if you think it may go over the PG13 guildelines.

9. Your entry must be 100% made for this contest. You cannot just recolour the hair on something you made for another contest, otherwise the picture will not be off my characters and that is the subject for this contest.

Valai Ring





Full Name: Valai Ring

Gender: Male

Occupation: White Healer

Hair: Long, straight blonde.

Eyes: Blue

Complexion: Fair

Build: Stocky

Approximate Age: 24

General Appearance: Valai wears long robes, as it proper for the attendants of the Temple of Order, which are blue in colour (denoting his status as an acolate) and just a little oversized for him. Otherwise he keeps his hair free of all adornment and has no jewels or fine ornaments. His feet are bare for the most part.

Traits/personality: Valai is a quiet and private person who has something to prove to the world - that he is worthy of his holy magics. He is extremly thoughtful but rather highly-strung and filled with a touch of the self-rightous. Because of this he can be irritating to people who do not share his beliefs in the light. As to be expected of one who has learnt holy magic he believes in good and order, in helping people who need it and being kind to everyone - but because of his fasination for dark magic he is something of a hypocryte, preaching the need to ignore Chaos when he himself does not. He has an odd sense of humor, enjoying toying and gently manipulating people, as well as being purposfully irritating - but not so much that people will realise overtly.

History: Valai was born in the Temple of Order to a Priest and Priestess. Both where disgrased for taking a lover from amongst the Sacred Order and banished, but Valai was kept amongst them and raised to be of the light. He has, however, been fighting with his legacy for respect amongst the elders. This had made him try harder than anyone else to master the most difficult Holy spells, including the fickle resurrection spell, something he longs to perfect.

As he passed into his teens, Valai expressed a desire to travel to the four holy teachers and learn from them, though really it was a way of leaving the temple and getting out to see the world. He spent around a year struggling to get permission for this task, but at least did, and now travels around, on pilgrimages, healing and helping, and resisting the temptations of chaos wherever he goes.

Magic: Being a temple priest, Valai is strictly white magic. That means healing (including resurection, if performed within a set amount of time, and cast exactly right but this is never a guarenteed spell even for the most proficient in healing), sheilds, levitation and anti-healing (that is, a spell to cure a broken bone could be reversed but only if he is touching the person in the particular area he wishes the damage, just as he would in order to heal it). Just for note, he carries a dagger, but rarely ever uses it - mostly he forgets he has it actually.

Interests/Hobbies: Valai's vice is that he is fasinated by anything that possesses a dark magic allignment and if he has the chance to study it, he will do so - he also destroys them afterwards, slowly causing an addiction of the 'feel' of the magic alignment, a problem for a white magic user. Otherwise he enjoys more ordinary persuits, such as fishing and walks, study on subjects that catch his interest, and time alone.

*Magicks, obviously! Healing or draining some dark object of its power.
*Fishing, he loves fishing. xd
*Playing with demon-pets (small little dragon-like creatures with over-sized wings and a heavy tail, usually dark blue or purple, he often heals their injuries as favors to monsters and demons who can find no one else willing to help them.
