Self Portrait (realism)

Needed to do something self expressive for an art project for my art appreciation class and decided to do myself. Took a good quality photo then drew it with #2 pencil and an ebony pencil smile

took about 2 and a half to 3 hours.

Nice! You've managed to translate a lot of the mood from the original, despite it being black and white. You also kept it very distinctive and true to character.

I don't do many. Usually just for fun. My first portrait was of myself about 6 years ago, and I've only done a couple since then. I'd say this is my 4th or 5th portrait ever. My art teacher (6 years ago) told me I have a natural talent for it.

haha yeah, it is a bit creepy... I was trying to get a good picture of my crooked eyes. There was one other shot that turned out great and I wasn't smiling. It was scary looking...so I took another with a smile! AND I love my bang twist to the side! So I wanted to draw it. smile

Thank you! I feel there needs to be some touch ups. Some darker shading to the hair, and a few minor things. Pencil and charcoal I am good at. One of these days I'd love to be able to color portraits, but my mind wont let it happen. >.<

I think the mathmatical side of my brain mixes with my overly artistic side and can just measure things well. I've always been able to measure with my eyes well. Came natural to me when I was copying the cover to my Looney tunes VHS tapes when I was like 6 or 7.

I love the creepy smile! Even with it you are still very cute! haha. You could have copied the smile from one picture and drew the eyes or facial shape from another?

that's amazing! I wish I could do realism so well, it takes me forever! and then it still usually fails
