Welcome to Gaia! ::

ok, first off, tell me what you think of this picture. I know it's sketchy, thats the look I was going for. But overall skill level, how would you think I rate?
<img src="http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v407/paperd0ll42/101.png">

Now, I made this in a oekaki that I'm pretty frequent at, but I'm getting rather P.O.-ed by people with lesser art skills giving me tips which they themselves don't follow.

Here's one that just really urked me (the comment not the pictures...although I wish I had cleaned up the lines a bit more)
<img src="http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v407/paperd0ll42/61.png">
For example, One person't comment on this drawing was:

Quote:
"If you mean anatomy by the realistic kind, then I'd say her breasts seem more like basketballs than anything else, and that she's bending too much therefore her back caves in too much. Maybe the thin neck, too. Sorry if I sound mean because I do think this is good.

Now, firstly, would anyone think I was trying to do realist anatomy with this picture? No, it's an anime chick, and I've seen a lot more outrageous body types in anime girls.

Second, and more importantly, I looks at these person't drawins and they were no where near the skill level my drawings were at. The anatomy (which I believe were trying to be realist) were way off, and the shading was almost non-exsistant.

I may be going alittle overboard, but it really really pisses me off when people leave comments like that when they themselves can't do the same quality work. I always try to be nice when I'm rating artwork or commenting in oekaki's. it's just the polite thing to do. And if I do give suggestions, I point out the good things about the pictures as well.

Soooo yes. Thats my story. Leave your opinions and a rating if you will. Or just bump. Cause bumping is fun 3nodding
Don't bump here. This isn't the Chater box.

I can't bump my own thread?
No, it's against the picture post rules.

*Nodds* It's frustratingly slow here... so I even have to bite my fingers to keep from bumping my topics.
I personally like the first one better, even if the lines really need improvement around the face; but if you're using a mouse it's... A little understandable. I would give you a 7.5 or an 8, but maybe only a 6 in coloring. You have a likeable style, but the way you've gone about shading things makes it look as if it's made of plastic. (Which even anime avoids)
I don't know if you think I'm at or above your level, but if you want to look it's ultimately your choice whether you take my advice or not. You did ask.

now see, I think you're above my level, therefore your critism is very welcomed and apperciated.

hmm, although I'm not quite sure I see what you mean by the shading making him look "plastic" I will keep this in mind for my next picture! thank you! 3nodding

Ah, I should have been more specific! When I was writing that I was looking at the drawing of the girl, her hair is uberly shiny and with shading in just a few places it makes it look rounded and "hard". Also on her top there aren't any wrinkles, so it leads me to wonder if it's made out of laytex.
Good luck with your art! ^^

ooooh ok, haha yeah, well I don't mind that so much in that picture. She does kinda look like a barbie anyways. haha
hmm, it is rather slow in here, isn't it?
Now I do understand why you get mad when ‘lesser’ artist comment on how to correct your work, I myself get annoyed. But just because they can’t draw, doesn’t mean they can’t see what’s wrong (if anything) with artwork. I comment on people’s artwork whose skill lever is far grater then mine, but I still know when things are not right or looks off.
