I've already established that I think M. Night is a horrible choice for director. Why give a guy who has never made a movie not conceived entirely in his head an existing world and wonderful characters to twist in his own brand of creative vision. I don't care how much his children like the show or how much he respects it, I think it is a poor choice.

I don't know if it is good or bad (horse designed by committee, etc) that Nick Productions had already stated that how well The Happening did would be a benchmark about how much M. Night would be left to his own devices on the Avatar project. The creators of Avatar, Bryan Konietzko and Michael Dante DiMartino are executive producers and at last quote seemed excited about the movie and about M. Night and were spending a lot of the time at his camp consulting.

In the end, it matters very little in that the first movie, at least, should rake in a nice sum of money and as long as they don't Water World the budget - should make a nice return.

PS:
The giant flying animal is Appa. He is a flying bison, a species that lived with the Air Nomads but became extinct (seemly) when the Fire Nation slaughtered the Air Nomads into extinction. Momo is a flying lemur but I think his species survived at the temples.... Unless Momo is almost 100 years old as it wasn't long after Aang disappeared that the Fire Nation attacked.

Oh, I forgot to mention that fandom opinion in general is against M. Night Shyamalan but with most willing to give the first movie, and his direction/script/choice of actors, a shot.
