Eee, so cute. And ending today. o uo ~

Uffie bids one first gen fallen wish. Tektek:

                      Lowest Market Price: 293,000 Gold
                      Average Buy Price: 301,935 Gold
I held one in the Fall of 06 for a total of 4 million at the time and couldn't have been happier with the results. The only thing that keeps me from hosting one again is the awful feeling I get knowing I don't have enough prizes to go around for everyone, since there tends to be more good entries than there is auction pot, you know? ;;'' Such a guilty feeling. T___T;;;

Ahh I'm not even sure. It was one or two years ago. Still have the link though. This is what I did...

Midnite Star Art Contest II

I think the pool of prizes were worth about 1.5 mill total or something around that, but I have a habit of really spreading it out. I like to reward people when I get so many lovely arts XD Rather than having one super elite prize, I was thinking I'd sell my OMG sometime to break down gold prizes. It would give me a lot more to work with.

The past two contests didn't really have a super amount in terms of prizes but I relied a lot on the fact that people seem to enjoy drawing the characters (I know I do). So I've gotten a lot of nice artwork. I would like to be able to draw in a larger number and quality of artists though so I'm not sure what I should aim for. I got my OMG in an auction before it made it to 1mill in worth XD It's probably the only item I have worth nearly that much. I gave a lot of my items away as prizes in the last contest.

Ohh, I think I remember that contest...a little. XD I don't think I posted much though I looked at the entries. 3nodding

I've held a couple of medium-sized contests (all under 1 million) over the years, and had varied results. I think my best one was actually one of my cheapest, but I think it was really helped by having a single, easy-to-draw subject. XD But yeah...havn't had one for about a year - year and a half, so I'm not sure what they're like anymore. I just remember I was a bit disapointed with the last one, and then my first had one and didn't get much interest either.

I think it's really nice to have a contest that spreads the love rather than centralises it though. :3 Showing the love for more entries!

Still...this is making me think of holding another...damn. :3

I'll be interested to see if you do hold one, and how it goes!
Haha thanks! I've always found the contests really fun <3 Plus I'm terrible and going out and individually getting art. I'm not good at stalking artists for open slots, and then the fact that Midnite and Star are best drawn together since they compliment each other. Light and darkness thing. Plus I hate telling artists what to draw. They can draw them chibi, normal, any medium, any outfits or poses. It's fun seeing people interpret them. Heck I can draw so if I had something specific in mind I'd just draw it. It's seeing what artists are inspired to do that makes me happy. So in that way I find contests really ideal...

And yeah, I like the idea of rewarding more artists. They deserve it. And I know that's one reason why I rarely enter contests. Aside from time, it's always putting off that even if you're art was great, someone bumped it out winning anything. Granted the only contests I'd ever enter is if it's something I'd enjoy drawing whether I win or not... but it's nice to win something. ^^

On the other hand, there's a lot of artists whose art I want that I couldn't get that way XD I feel poor now. I need to do more auctions...

^__^ *nods* That's what I love about them to. Even when I commission I tend to prefer to say the artist can have artist freedom, do what they feel inspired to - better art comes of it anyway. :3 Contests really take that to another level though.

One problem I found, in one particular contest though, was I had some samples up that where really distinct but good art and a really nice concept, pretty inspiring - but I found that a couple of artists went a bit overboard being inspired by this one piece and you could really tell they'd taken a lot from it...but so it ended up kinda looking a bit like the original one. XD;; Has that ever been a problem for you?

As for entering contests...ah, I'm not much of an artist, so I've only entered two, with writing catagories. ^^ Sabin's and Songjewel's (from a couple of years ago).
Congrats Uffie!

Hmn I don't think I ever noticed that problem too much, Cartagia. At least not enough that I'd think, oh gosh that looks just like this sample or they obviously ripped off another piece's concept.
Oh, no, not that badly! ^^;; Not like I think they ripped it off, exactly...well, actually...hmm...okay, I have to go find the pics now and remind myself...XD
haha okay, so maybe like they just didn't come up with anything original on their own like?
*nods* Yeah, it's not as bad as I remembered, I have to admit...you can just tell they got so inspired by that pic it was hard to pull away from it. :3 It's good art though.

Not that anyways suggested, but just so y'all knows, I don't want to post the two pics up, it's not fair on the artist, I wouldn't want to make them feel bad because they clearly didn't rip from it or anything. ^_^

Ooh, I'd like to see the original picture though to see how they got so inspired by it. o uo !
lol I'm curious now but that's understandable. As an artist I know how easily it is to be inspired by a certain picture. It's inevitable once it's in our heads.

As a caricature artist at busch gardens, a lot of the other artists tend to draw each other. When we had a few new artists over winter come visit, some of the artists tried to draw them before looking at what the others did... because once you saw someone elses caricature of that person and how they interpreted them, it's hard to get it out of your head right away. It's inevitable that you'll finally see the same person drawn over and over again (in a lot of whacky ways) and it becomes anew challenge for them to draw the person differently. Just an interesting take...
