The humans are a confusing bunch indeed.
However, you don't have to. Some couples, who have decency on their side, hold off.
But, you do try to do at least a little something nice. Give someone a card, a box of candy, to try to say 'I love you,' and then, they will usually give a small gift back, a plush, or maybe a card and candy.
