death note's darkly themed, mainly centered on death and mortality and crime and insanity and the intrinsic concepts of good, evil and justice. nothing necessarily emo about it. ._.

I'm going to assume that the reason people think Death Note is emo is because they have only seen the (completely awful) second opening.

That opening has nothing to do with the series as a whole, and I felt that it really didn't represent the series well at all.

Nothing emo about the anime or movie just the dark colors really bring out the anime/movie and it's about someone trying to be a god there is NOTHING emo about that and thats FINAL.

Honestly, that is the most ignorant description of an anime I've ever seen.
Even if "emo" was a legit term, it didn't originate from Japan. Seeing as it's an abbreviation of an English word - Emotional. Which was a crappy music genre in the beginning. Which is now spawned into an ongoing joke of emotional teenagers.

Unless you're referring to the fact it's a rather dark anime.
Then of course. Because "emo"s invented the color black. I forgot.
