This is not a question you hear often. Considering it's picked up in amazing popularity and has formed such a fan base.
I agree with previous replies. This is an anime worth watching. The artwork is what drew me into it at first.
Word of advice though.. Dubbed is not the best way to go with it. It's seriously lacking in the voice department. And this is saying a lot coming from someone who watches dub most of the time.
And NO, it's not yaoi. But, don't ask the fangirls that. They'll tell you a completely different story!
Or I'm just blind to gayness.

Black Butler, an anime about a demon named Sebastian Michealis protecting his master Ciel Phantomhive. Plot twist after plot twist, fanservice after fanservice, you follow? Really, it's unbearable to watch. Irritating.. but then, that may just be me and my sanity speaking. Grell annoys the hell out of me with his constant posing, and Sebastian with his 'smooth and cool' act. I hate this anime. Period. I do not recommend it. It has a huge, fangirl-filled fanbase (again, I warn you..)... do not watch it.

A young boy makes a contract with a great and amazing demon who is to become this boys butler. This contract is like a trade—work as a butler to complete someones wish in life for their soul. Now, these two go on great adventures to find the wish of the young boy who wishes to complete it. The boy is Ciel Phantomhive and the awesome and handsome butler *****lawlz***** is Sebastian Michaelis. There are obstacles, though, but youll find more. I tried explaining in the best yet lamest way possible.

Its pretty legit and awesome, and no, its not yaoi. There are yaoi fangirls though.

Someone help me out here. I'm thinking of watching this series, but I don't want to go out and buy it before knowing a thing or two about it. Yeah, I know I could read the wikipedia page, but I'd prefer hearing some fans' opinions about it and such.

So it's apparently about some kid who gets a butler from hell to help him get revenge on a cult that was torturing him or something in Victorian England? Is it yaoi? The info I've seen on it doesn't say anything one way or the other.

Annnnd...what's the deal with the undertaker? People seem to love that guy, but from what I've seen he isn't in it that much.

I don't know. What's the appeal of the show?

In the shortest t way i can explain it, its basically about "one hell of a butler." heart
i'm not creep-ed out by it i think its funny, its dark, it makes me think, and has a lot of good quality that a good anime should have. as for it being ya-oi i mean it could be it has its moments but that's for the viewer to decide. heart heart heart heart heart i love it and i dont think the voices are as bad as every tries to make it seem.

It is in no way anything like Yaoi! And the Undertaker is just awesome! Most people think Black Butler is Yaoi just because of the scene where Sebastian is helping Ciel put a corset on! And yes there are some odd parts within the manga but that still doesn't make it Yaoi! Junjou Romantica is Yaoi
