What the Hell is Black Butler?

Someone help me out here. I'm thinking of watching this series, but I don't want to go out and buy it before knowing a thing or two about it. Yeah, I know I could read the wikipedia page, but I'd prefer hearing some fans' opinions about it and such.

So it's apparently about some kid who gets a butler from hell to help him get revenge on a cult that was torturing him or something in Victorian England? Is it yaoi? The info I've seen on it doesn't say anything one way or the other.

Annnnd...what's the deal with the undertaker? People seem to love that guy, but from what I've seen he isn't in it that much.

I don't know. What's the appeal of the show?

Hmm, well i personally thought that this series was pretty awesome! The animation is fantastic, and the plot is suspenseful and thrilling..though sometimes its a bit gruesome/horrorific. Even in the beginning, you are drawn into the first episode which wants to make u continue watching on to see what twisted the main character, btw the ending of the first ep, is sooo 'unique' and twiiiisted, whew....
This series really makes u consider the darker side of humanity, but hmm, the main charater, ciel, desire for revenge/darker side doesn't overshadow some of his nicer and cuter qualities, and his butler, sebastien, is pretty epic and just woow..

I would say that this show has little to no romance at all, so I wouldn't consider it yaoi, though there are some parts that doo look shounen ai.

Also, all the characters are quite appealing, even ciel's servents which have a 'interesting' past and add humour to the plot. The undertaker is just a mystery, he doesn't doo much except to give info to ciel and i guess add humour as well. I personally dont see anything too him too.


So if u like gothic, dark animes with bits of humour its a must watch! Though, the second series didnt match up to the epicness of the first, i was pretty dissapointed/sad at the finale, though it was unexpected. Hope this helps >.<

Yeah, it does, thanks! When you say gothic, do you mean something like Death Note or Witch Hunter Robin? It sounds like it's got a bit more humor and lighthearedness than those types of shows. Humor's good for relieving the intensity sometimes. I remember when I watched Witch Hunter Robin I'd feel totally drained after every episode. O.O

hmm I would say maybe gothic like feel like deathnote but a bit less, there's a lot of death/gruelsome murders. yeaa, ughh, i agree when i watched witch hunter robin i felt draineed too, but for kuroshitsuji, u dont feel that drained feeling, its of a more holy smokes/ woaah feeling that kinda adds to the appeal of the show

Looovvvvee iitt! Its absolutely hilarious its not "gothic" its really more so morbid humor. If you've seen Ouran its like that with the crazy humor but with a dark feel to it. The episode I last saw was about Jack the Ripper and it was gruesome but not overly so. That's why everyone loves the undertaker he is absolutely ecstatic about death and to get info out of him, they have to tell him a joke xD.

Its absolutely fantastic with Grell being the flamboyant reaper who starts quoting Shakespeare in his own little twisted way xD.

Although, I prefer the first season to the second, unless you prefer Alois ...

Anywho, I love this anime with all my heart, and I'm going to start the manga soon.
