Sad animes~

Haibane Renmei.
It's relaxing, tearjerking, and uplifting, and in that order. Easily the most beautiful and touching series I've ever seen.

Scrapped Princess had quite a few good tear jerkers too, as I recall.

Rozen Maiden was mostly happy, but had a handful of really powerful moments to its name.

There's also Someday's Dreamers -- I note that someone has already recommended its sequel.
