parents think anime is stupid but when if they took look at majority of western media it would make anime look better in comparison

LoL
That sucks.

I'm 21 and LOVE anime.
Always have and always will.

I grew up on Dragonball, DBZ, Sailor Moon,
Gundam Wing, Zoids, and of course Pokemon.

My mother was also a little weirded out by it at first but she quickly
came to see the light. By the time I was in middle school, she sat
and watched DBZ with me everyday after I got home from school.
If it weren't for Zoids being on at five o'clock in the morning while I
was growing up I don't know how I would have gotten to school on
time. In fact! My parents never had to make sure I was up for school
after Pokemon reruns were played daily in the USA which was started
in the late 90's because I was up every morning to watch it before
school. My grandmother always thought it was weird, still does, but
she credits it to keeping me out of trouble while I was growing up. I
was always wrapped up in a new story line
or fantasizing about an older one.

I always used to make fun of my mother's favorite cartoons:
Smurfs, Thundercats, He-Man, and Inspector Gadget.
Lets not forget her favorite comic, Elf Quest. LOL
I loved all of those things and still do, but it didn't take much
comparing, contrasting, and mocking to get her to understand.

You're mom will come to accept your likes
as long as those likes aren't self-destructive.
After all, she is your mother.

Interesting Shapeshifter

My parents think its a waste of time and that I don't need to watch it since its just cartoons..... Doesnt look like I care though >.<
dizzah
I remember telling my mom about yaoi once, and she was like "Two fictional characters having sex? That's not right!"
But neither of my parents really mind, which is nice.

My mom thinks anime is weird, but she doesn't mind me watching it too much. She just says it lowers IQ, but I'm 98% sure she's joking just to tease me.

My dad watches anime. He keeps bugging me to watch the Slayers or something, and we both like Fullmetal Alchemist.

lol you're only 14? You're still very young, still a kid in fact. Enjoy it while you can. Those wonderful times don't last forever.

Anyway, I was 8 when I started watching Dragon Ball on VHS. Then I started watching Pokemon at the age of 10 and that's when I discovered what anime actually is. My parents actually introduced it to me when I was a kid so they have no problem with it. Even now and I'm almost 25.

But I agree that Disney channel isn't the same anymore. Unfortunately, you didn't grow up with the same Disney Channel I grew up with. When I was young, we had TV blocks such as Disney Vault, Disney Afternoon, etc. They don't play the old classic cartoons like Pluto, Donald Duck, Goofy, etc. I highly recommend checking out some of Disney's older cartoons from the 40's-60's, 80's and 90's.
