Now, I'm not a major Miaka fan, but please give the girl some credit -.-

Miaka did not get everything handed to her. Yui did.
Oh yes, we must all feel sorry for Yui because she was attacked in that way, right?
Feh. Yui sat in the palace throughout most of the story and did absolutely nothing but be a pain in the neck.
Miaka actually went out and found her seishi, risking her own life to do so. She did the work she was supposed to. Yui sat there and let Nakago find her seishi.
How many times during the series was Miaka attacked and almost killed? Yes, her seishi came to her rescue, but that's what they were meant to do. Seishi are supposed to protect their priestess.

Ok, so Miaka was immature at the beginning of the series. She was 15 for heaven's sake. She's supposed to act childish, because to all intents and purposes she was a child. Who can honestly say that they were 'grown up' and 'mature' at the age of 15? How many girls honestly act like Miaka sometimes? And if you were forced into Ancient China, having lived all your life in modern times, knowing absolutely nothing about survival techniques, how would you fair?
Miaka didn't know how to protect herself from thugs with knives or people after her life becase, up until that point, she hadn't had to. Her life in modern day Japan hadn't given her any hardship at all so of course she was an immature, normal, fifteen year old.

One of the major points of the series is how much Miaka grows up during it. She learns to be mature through her trials. Fushigi Yuugi wouldn't be Fushigi Yuugi without Miaka being a bumbling idiot and learning to overcome that. The food obsessed, hyper little girl who first enters the book is not the mature person that summons Suzaku at the end.

Now Yui.
Admittedly Yui had one hell of a lot of trauma to go through, what with believing she was raped and all that, but I still can't forgive her. I can understand why she hated Miaka, and why she fought her. But it's Yui as a person I don't like. She didn't care about her seishi at all. Did Yui ever cry for her seishi the way Miaka did? Did Yui try to solve their problems and make them happy? No. Yui was so focused on making Miaka unhappy that she ignored everything that went on around her. If Yui was so mature, then why did she allow herself to be used and manipulated by Nakago that way?

Takiko... Hmm. Takiko is a stronger character than Miaka, and more lovable than Yui, but somehow I can't form as much of an attachment to her, or the other Genbu characters for that matter, than I could to the original Suzaku lot. I do like her though, she's just not as lovable and funny as Miaka in my eyes.

Like I said though, Miaka isn't actually a favourite. Chichiri and Mitsu are blaugh

Anyway that's my rant ^-~ Cara out.
Agreed.
Almost having nothing to do with the topic at hand, I thought the title said "What's the matter, Miko?"
... Guess I need to get my eyes checked again..

I've been a Fushigi yuugi fan for quite some time now, but my most favorite "Miko" is Miaka, why, becuase Miaka and i are somewhat alike 3nodding . Yes its true miaka is an immature, food loving 15 year old girl who doesn't realize many things in the beginning. Soon later in the, she realizes that she has a duty to accomplish as Suzaku no Miko, so she does her best, and sh goes out risking her life to find all the seishi and accomplish her goal. Mostly each time she meets a seishi, the more mature she gets because each one of the seishi encourage her. Plus she cries for each seishi that gets hurt or dies: Nuriko, Chiriko, Mistukake, and Hotohori. So, Miaka becomes more stronger to protect each one she loves heart .

Now for Yui, shes a more mature person whith a lot of smarts and doesn't know whats going on either. All she knew was that "she thinks" she got raped, and she lets Nakago toy with her emotions, making her become enemies with Miaka. But i clearly understand why she did though. But hello, her and Miaka has been best friends ever since kindergarden. She doesn't go out and finds all the seishi, she lets Nakago do all the work, Yui just sits there doing nothing. Plus, she doesn't even listen to Miaka what she has to say of saying "sorry." Yui doesn't even cry for her seishi, she has no heart what so ever. She's a good person, but i just hated what she did to her best friend stressed .

Takiko is a more strong girl than Miaka and Yui combined, but she does the thing right of being the Genbu no Miko. Actuall she is a good person because she does her best to reach in the heart of each seishi she finds, but she doesn't like her father. She's somewhat like miaka, still acts a little weird at sometimes and she does go out risking her life to find each seishi. (i can't really say that much about her because i just started reading the manga sweatdrop .)

I absolutely adore Yui.

Miaka got everything handed to her, and was a selfish b***h. (Not to mention, a complete idiot.)

You took the words right out of my mouth!
Totally agreed.

I like Takiko better, and her warriors. Takiko is way more mature and she cares about her warriors.

Takiko is not like Miaka at all. Miaka cares about food and herself mostly. And Miaka didn't even wish for peace for Konan. All she wished is for, the fighting would stop in HER WORLD, Yui to come back, and Tamahome to be reborn. Takiko is not selfish as Miaka. You should read the whole manga. 3nodding
