What turns you off in anime?

Is there anything in an anime series that will automatically make you hate a series? Or at least make you like it less?

I was finally getting around to reading Soul Eater on Manga Fox, since so many of my friends seem to love it, but when I got to this part where Black Star is fighting this strong soul guy, it's really turned me off. Just seeing him do the common "I'm a runt and an idiot, and always get into fights with people much stronger than me, but always come out on top because of being determined." thing, really makes me hate the series. It's just such a usual Shonen series... -.-

I like the character design though. In the first chapter, when that girl and the guy went to the Witch's house, I liked the witch a lot! biggrin

Ugly art. Lack of story. : / It takes a lot for me to entirely dislike an anime which is a good sign that Detatoko Princess, indeed, is one of the worst anime ever made.

Oh I SO know what you mean. D: I see that a lot in anime unfortunately. The series Eiken had that a lot obviously on purpose, but it made the whole thing seem a lot less funny. -_-

The first thing I look at is the art, which is why I can not get into One Piece
and also why I almost didn't read fruits basket.
The art just didn't appeal to me, but in fruits basket the story did so it was okay haha
Thats the next big thing, if there is no real good story then I can't watch it -_-

Too many flashback/recap episodes, especially if they're right after each other.

does fan-service, weak/cliched story lines, cliched designs, horrible animation quality, unoriginal scripts, weird choices in voicer-overs, and stereotypical characters spell it out for you? biggrin
