Actually Sasuke doesn't kill Itachi Accordin to the japanese naruto site, this is what happened:

Thirded and I have to say,WHY he is so anti-Itachi in EVERYthing that he does.He killed my family,I'm gonna go killz him,somewhat understandable.Wtf you just say,"Madara",my family was evil,and he did a GOOD thing and helped the village? I'm mad,Imma gonna go destroy my home now,JUST because Itachi saved it.Get a gun,and shoot yourself.After I read that chapter,I joined the I hate Sasuke list.He's such a fool.

Itachi didn't just given Sasuke the Amaterasu-jutsu to protect him from Madara. He even gave another jutsu to Naruto in their battle, saying that he hopes that he would not have to use it against Sasuke. Itachi may have figured that if Sasuke learns the truth and falls under Madara's influence, Naruto would then be the one who would knock Sasuke back into his senses. It is possible Madara is lying about the Nine-Tails being a cause of natural disaster when it attacked Konoha. The Nine-Tails mentioned Madara before when he met Sasuke, giving hints that Madara may have a role in letting the Nine-Tails attack Konoha (after all, he said it himself that the Uchihas are very capable of controlling the tailed beasts at will).
