I thought I answered. It's not hunky-dory when anyone dies, but death is natural. But this is the case of someone willfully killing someone else.
And how is that less natural than any other way of dying?

There are no malicious intentions behind it. In other words, a will to harm someone, I think, is wrong. You can blame an earthquake for killing people, but you can't punish it because it has no will to inflict harm.

Are we saying that some teen who thinks he knows what justice is killing people with a magic book is natural? lol
Well its fantasy, but if there were an actual magic book that did that, then I would say it IS pretty natural. That notebook must have been created for a reason. And using it to eliminate criminals is as good a reason as any other.

Really? I was under the impression that the Death Note wasn't something that was supposed to be in the hands of humans.
So then, it is perfectly okay if Shinigami kill humans? Besides, the Death Notes have all these rules for humans who use them. If they weren't supposed to be used by humans, why do they have specific rules written down for humans who use them?

Well, I have nothing to say about Death Note's fictional universe, since I hate the series anyway. But if we're applying it to reality, I have no belief in any kind of supernatural or divine entities. I think it's dodging the debate about whether or not it is all right to kill criminals (and anyone else who gets in your way or seeks to stop you) in order to attempt to create a utopia.

No.

After thought, I've come to the conclusion that Light/Kira is a stereotypical nazi. And I'd under no circumstances worship Hitler.

Seriously. Instead of the Jews, Light started with criminals; both people thought these were banes of society. Then later both moved on to others, people who were 'weak', the disabled. They both wanted 'perfect worlds'.

So, in short, Light=Anime!Hitler. The end.

Well said.

Why thank you.

I thought of this connection in my AP European History class while zoning out listening to my teacher lecture. It's pretty good, too, because nobody wants to support/worship Hitler.

Well, nobody you wouldn't want to stay well away from. Kinda feel the same thing about Kira/Light supporters. It seems to be indicative of an attitude that doesn't jive with me in general.

Agreed. Well, half, if not most of Kira/Light supporters just think he's hot. Still, those aren't people I generally want to hang with, anyways.

It's like when my roomie at the college thing I did last summer said she supported war (WTF) and felt women should serve men, because of what the bible says. I just want to stay away and never come back (as a feminist and pacifist).

Well you were getting off track as much as myself on the issue. But if you want to get back, then please explain why killing human beings is intrinsically wrong.

Did Light actually move onto killing disabled people in the manga? If he did, then I agree with you. Targetting people for being disabled is a downright dispicable thing to do. That said, I still agree with killing the criminals.

Wow, scary. In that kind of situation it's hard not to be hateful. Instead, in a situation where you're thrown together with someone like that, I prefer to introduce some sort of element that forces them to acknowledge other points of view, be it a pin on your bag, a book on your shelf, or whatever.
This is why I wear an "I <3 Porn" pin on the messenger bag I wear most places. I don't look like the kind of person who would watch it, and I hope it helps people reconsider the precognitions they might have about the sort of people they think like it without me having to say a word on the subject. lol

Personally, I think that people like that roommate who like war and are anti-feminist would pretty much justify the use of a Death Note. You can't reason with people like that. They thrive on being irrational.

I don't know if he actually got that far, but I'm pretty sure he said it was his plan (it's been a LONG time since I've read the manga). Anyway, he DID say that he was the only one to judge humanity, and that he wanted a perfect world. This screams Hitler to me.

Well, whether he said he would kill of the disabled or actually did it is enough to make me not support his ideal world. Anyhow, I think it is rather childish to be against something by default simply because it has similarities to Hitler. Hitler wrote his own autobiography. Does that mean that people who write autobiographies are evil? Hitler was highly intelliegnet (despite being a bigot). Does that mean that intelligent people are evil? Hitler killed people based on his bigotry. There is a huge difference between killing someone for their religion, race, etc. and killing someone because they raped a little kid or broke into a house and murdered a family for cash. But by your logic, killing to make the world better is wrong simply because Hitler did it. Rather black and white way to view the world, isn't it?
