So, I'm currently rewatching School Days... I've seen it before, and I know how satisfying the ending will be, but damn, even on my second time through, the few episodes leading up to that ending just make me hate the world.

Does any anime do that to you? Either by being flat-out depressing, or by having so many awful and putrid characters that you're glad you don't exist in their universe?

It's related to the classic "I need a shower now" feeling.
Black Butler/Kuroshitsuji does this to me somewhat.

It's like a deconstruction of Hellsing. It's basically got the same premise. (A cold calculating-type character leads a corporation/organization, has an immortal/supernatural being by their side, and works to bring down anything disrupting the beating heart of good ol' England.) The deconstruction comes in the form of the characters We replace the cold and calculating female leader (Integra Hellsing) with a bratty and irritable version of the same character. (Ciel Phantomhive) The immortal, gunslinging vampire with a bloodthirst and arrogance all his own (Alucard) gets swapped out with a fangirl-attracting demon who has a lacking personality and comes off as a *****. (Sebastian Michaelis) The musket-wielding Nazi vampire girl with bullets that actually chase down their targets (Rip Van Winkle) gets changed with a homosexual stereotype who flirts with every other male character and has a crush on the century-old demon. (Grell Sutcliff. Arguably the most memorable-looking character in the series.) The artificial Nazi werecat with the power to be everywhere and nowhere at once (Schrodinger) gets thrown out in favor of a guy who's part dog and runs around naked most of the time in the anime. And there are several more examples.

The series could have been much better if some of these characters (mainly Ciel, Grell, and Undertaker) had been given better, less annoying personalities, and if the series had an overarching plot to speak of. But because of what I can only assume is amateur writing, the series goes on my "why did I watch this?" list.

(Get mad, fangirls. I don't care in the slightest.)

Alien Cosmonaut

This topic kind of conveys two different feelings, so I'll answer both.

Rose of Versailles is the best anime I've seen, but holy s**t, those last few episodes were so emotionally draining. It completely destroyed me, I knew the ending was gonna be tragic but not entirely that tragic.

Closer to the "I need a shower now" feeling, Fideo Aldena from Inazuma Eleven makes me feel like that whenever I look at him or hear his awful screechy voice. Blehhhh. I can't even think of another character I hate as much as him, and he's just a brat from a kiddie sports anime.
Oh, wait...there's another one...

Corpse Party.

This one is much easier to explain. It's one of those anime series' that's really only popular because of its gore and shock value. (Much like Blood-C and Elfen Lied, among others.) The characters are nothing more than a bunch of ******** caricatures, and the story is basically just an excuse to turn the show into meaningless torture porn that makes even SAW look watchable. The only joy I could get out of this show is seeing these archetypes brutally murdered onscreen. I guess that might've been the main draw for the show, but it still didn't make up for the characters being so shitty in the first place.

At least I don't have to watch it anymore, right?

Tokyo Ghoul is an anime about ghoul eating people species. Our main character is send in to this ghoul world by an "accident" he meets a girl that he likes, goes on a date with her, all good and nice, at the end of the date the girl apparently is a ghoul and fouled our main character all along ,all she wanted to do was eat him, but a strange accident stops her from doing so and our main character ends up hurt in a hospital with the girls transplanted organs, after that he transforms in to a half ghoul...i'll leave you to find out the rest xd enjoy oh and....read the manga also heart
Rumbling Hearts/Kimi ga Nozomu Eien, the anime is such a depression fest of misery and sadness that if it does not tug at your emotions you're not human. It was so depressing that even though I enjoyed the series I could not bring myself to watch the final two episodes.

Khraleon's Wife

Kawaii Wife

I couldn't tell you any anime that's made me feel anything much, really. Not recently, at least.

I could tell you of a manga, which would be Punpun, which tore me down steadily.

Puella Magi Madoka Magica.

I don't care what her reasons were. Homura was just being selfish and obsessive. I also hate that green-haired chick.

I watched Tokyo ghoul and it didn't really leave me feeling really sad nor like I hated the word/the word from the anime. Admittedly i did start questioning just what would happen if there was a species on earth which could only consume humans. I stopped that train of though quite quickly though, if i kept thinking about it i would probably lose faith in humanity again sweatdrop

The worst anime i ever saw was something i stumbled across on the internet when i was about 10(Why are there no age restrictions on these websites?!). Yeah there was a lot of illegal stuff in that anime and I've been mentally scared ever since and become paranoid in checking anime age ratings.

Meh i think it's probably happened to a few people though

Not an anime but a manga: Oyasumi Punpun is absolutely great but JFC don't read it if you are prone to feeling down. I have never felt so hollow, horrible, depressed and disillusioned with everything just by reading fiction as I have with that. Hell I haven't even finished it, because I just stopped once I got to the middle (after marathoning it the whole day) and felt like a husk for 2 days. Haven't picked it up since.
For a similar experience with games: Off

There are a lot of anime which make me SAD but never in a way like you mean since there is usualy at least HOPE by the end. Anyway look up Kaiba if you want to slam your head against a table while crying every second episode.

i dont think its fair to compare elfenlied to corpse party just because of gore content.
Lucy at least has her reasons to back her actions.
not like some kindergarten ghost girly trying to avenge her and her mothers death by murdering other childern..

elfenlied wasnt just about gore... my opinion at least

But they're kind of the exact same thing when you boil it down? Elfen Lied's lead is supposed to be sympathetic fetish fuel because she had a rough childhood as a non-human, suffered at the hands of others, lost those important to her, and now uses those powers in a bloodlust frenzy to rip apart people that hurt her/want to hurt her.

Corpse Party's antagonist is a little girl that was murdered after seeing her mother murdered and her body desecrated and hidden away and her fury made her a vengeful spirit exacting torturous revenge.

I just wonder how you think Lucy's reasons (and how she reasoned she needed to slaughter entire families to crash in their houses as a child plus killing MC's sister and his father who did nothing to her) measure up to Sachiko's who also kills people for selfish reasons though she had a purpose at first - vengeance for the wrongs against her - which is the same that sparked Kaede's murderlust.

In the end, regardless of the stories (I don't care for EL at all but I hear the manga actually tries to make a good story, the Corpse Party game is a pretty good story itself and not just about torture porn and misery fuel), but the anime counterparts are literally just torture porn that love to spew blood, fanservice, and conveniently-timed emotional scenes between the gore and are or are becoming Baby's First Torture Porn. They're on the same level at bare bones.

the difference is that lucy wanted to exact revenge against everyone that had mobbed her/hurt her. (not sure about MC's family, was yrs ago when I watched it)
but sachiko didnt exact revenge against those who hurt her but tortured those innocent classmates of her and let the guys who hurt her live she only haunted them.
