In all the time I've watched anime, I've only seen two bad dubs.

Angel Sanctuary, and Yami No Matsuei/Descendants of Darkness

With Yami No Matsuei, the VA's weren't horrible, but they were either A. Horribly recognizable... Ehh... Dan Green and Eric Stuart... or B. Terribly casted. *cough* Muraki *cough*

As for Angel Sanctuary, there is no end to butchery in that dub. It just sounds terrible.



But all the other dubs I've heard are usually fine.
Like, recently everyone starts wining about how "Host club r teh wurst dub eva" and "Vic sucks"... and I'm wondering how stupid they are.

The whole cast of Ouran is just fine. If they can call that the worst dub ever... Ugh.


Then you have jewels, like Hellsing, for one. Most outstanding cast I've heard.

People need to just get over the fact that we're no longer in the 90's, and dubs are no longer worth crying over. They never really were.

I too am getting sick of people dissing dubs just because "it doens't sound like the original" or "the voices suck" Oh COME ON people, they aren't trying to sound like the original, they're just trying to keep the spirit of the original, they CAN'T sound like the original becuase they are different people and don't speak the same language. Yes, some dubs suck horribly, but many dubs really aren't that bad. Sure, I'll admit its hard to compete with the quality of the Japanese version, but its not the most horrible thing in the world. Many dubs sound decent at least, its not liek the voice actors are emotionless or totally fakey sounding or something, only them can you call a dub bad.

Bad dubs on my list from what i've heard are Flame of Recca, Full Moon wo Sagashite, Sailor Moon (especially in later seasons) and Love Hina, most otherwise are pretty good.

It's either that terrible or my DVD is broken. It's like some characters get good voice audio quality while others get bad audio quality. IF THE AUDIO QUALITY IS GOING TO BE BAD, MAKE IT CONSISTENT FOR ALL THE AUDIO.

On topic, personally I prefer dubs. It's spoken in the language I've known for most of my life and so I can hear and enjoy the way it's acted out by my favorite actors. I enjoy subs too. Only if there's no dubs or if the dubs are so awful I can't stand it I'll watch it subbed.

Well, that... and the fact that copying the original goes against what a good actor SHOULD do.
If an actor is portraying a role that others have done before them, they're not supposed to act like the original, they're supposed to bring themselves into it, their own flair.

You don't emulate those before you, you keep the characters essence, and bring out something new. When you just copy the original, you're nothing but a lame knock-off.

The same applies to voice acting.

Full Moon's main character's Japanese VA is quite bad. I had fun laughing at how much she sucks.

Yeah, and I too prefer dubs but I like reading at least (if not the entire series) some of the manga before going dub or sub or just sticking to manga. It helps me judge casting and quality better, I think.

I would have to say I prefer dubs over subs.... Mainly because I do not have the attention span to sit down and watch/read subs. Though, Yami No Matsui... There is no watching subs on that, that would be a form of suicide.
There are some animes where I find it's better the subs, just because it's so different. Orphen (first season) Is in my opinion much better, subbed. I am looking forward to seeing D.Gray Man subbed.
I don't really care for the Ouran Sub, even though Vic is amazing. I just don't like Haruhi, though the twins were dubbed amazingly.

Dub vs. Sub debates are the ones that truly suck.

An opinionated war with no viable outcome, only to prove who has the larger ego.

It is true that dubs are not horrible at all. I prefer them most of the time.

Other people just need to learn to get their heads out of their asses and be a bit more humble. You can admit dubs are still great and still only watch subs. Your head will not explode.

My only problem with dubs on television is the fact that they erase the blood almost all the time. Also they get rid of the cussing. Grr... And I'm also too poor to buy the uncut version at this point. The Tagalog dubs don't erase the blood.... But they make the character they voice seem out of character....

Original DBZ wtf....every character had a female voice actor. this being the original as in Japanese original. that was freaky hearing em like that. O.O but generally I prefer Subs to Dubs I think Love Hina is what made me change I will admit there are some dubs that don't make me want to murder people.

Well, I guess if there was no such thing as dubbed anime, then I would actually never heard of anime, since the country I live in is an English-speaking country (obviously). Really, I don't really care what is on the anime, as long as I can understand what the anime is going on, I am fine with it. Overall, I guess in my opinion Japanese voice actors and English voice actors are at the same level, neither of them are better in a way, rather a variety of them are sometimes better in that area (like voicing characters) and others are better in that different area (voicing like that character's personality). I actually honestly prefer the English dub version of Tengen Toppa Gurren Lagann over the Japanese dub version, because the voices sounds cooler, but that's me anyway.
