I'm partial to subs myself, but I have nothing against dubs. While some of them are downright horrible, a lot of them aren't bad at all.

1LitreofTears_Sakura But wouldn't it weird to hear something like, for example, "Mr. Kakashi" instead of "Kakashi-sensei"? In martial arts classes such as aikido, judo, and jiujitsu, all students are expected to call their teachers "sensei" instead of "Mr. _______." It's no more weird than hearing someone speaking English and then suddenly adding a Japanese suffix/honorific at the end of a name. "Master Kakashi" or just plain "Kakashi" would work. I can understand having to say "sensei" if you're taking a martial arts class, but outside of that? Sensei I don't mind AS much if it's being used appropriately (i.e. only when the situation is student and martial-arts teacher), but for it to be used anytime any sort teacher is mentioned, in an English dub, gets annoying fast. Hearing Japanese suffixes/honorifics by English-speaking people just annoys the heck out of me. I hear it the most when I got to A-kon every year... "Hey, Suzaka-chan (the girl's name is probably actually Melissa or Britney, but her friend decides to call her that because she reminds her of a female Sazaku and she thinks it's so "kawaii desu" and makes her look "cultured" to say it that way)! Vic-sama's panel is starting soon!" "I heard about that, Yuri-san (Jessica)! We should go find Ichigo-kun (Brad) and drag him with us!" Strike that. Hearing English-speaking individuals littering speech with Japanese words, phrases, and suffixes/honorifics in general (i.e. when they're not in a Japanese class) annoys the hell out of me. gonk |

1LitreofTears_Sakura Shadow Coon II Millipede can't stand it when characters use "chan" and "senpai" when speaking english.  This, too. Dubs should NOT contain the English VAs using Japanese suffixes on names. Chan, san, kun, dono, sensei, etc ALL need to stay out of English dubs. I like dubs 3nodding I also like subs both are great
The dub for Haruhi spot on song translates and singing were great The dub for Lucky Star spot on and they even put little title boxes for things they keep in, chan, and what not The dub for Ouran spot on, title boxes on this to theu keep, Senpai in to The dub for Negima! and Negima!? better then the Japanese because Negi and every one else has the British voice they should have Ok, Code Geass's dub sucks a ton of stuff is missing from the Japanese to English translate Bleach is good, they say everything right, the Spanish words are said right and so is the bount's German! |

subs: cuz it's nice to see the oringinal version and dubs: cuz some things just make more sence to me when they're spoken in english. |

Personally, I don't find anything wrong with dubs. Some are good, some are bad, some are okay, and some I have no idea because I've never seen the original Japanese version(though I have to admit I don't prefer the Naruto dub....). Some dubs, however, I like way better than the Japanese version because in the Japanese version, the guys are obviously voiced by girls and it kind of bugs me...O_o

I think the Naruto English dub is good, I think Naruto's English voice actress tries to make him sound like his Japanese voice. I like Ouran High School Host Club dub too, I don't understand why a lot of people hate it. Gurren Lagann, I like dub.

It really depends on the anime for me, and how closely they followed the original. Sometimes I won't watch the anime at all (sub or dub) if it deviates too far from the plot of the manga. I always read it first, so if an anime is following the same general direction but changing too much it gets under my skin (BeeTrain Tsubasa for instance). Just like trying to make a book into a movie.
I'm not a purist (Well, I'm completely anti-4Kids, because they are butchers), it really just depends on which version I hear first because then those are the voices I associate the characters with in my head. For example, Yuu Yuu Hakusho just isn't right without Justin Cook. |

I love both subs and dubs. Well, I watch subs sometimes because sometimes that anime is not out in the US yet. I watch English version as well because I can actually understand what they are saying.

I was just thinking the same thing about this! It's annoying to hear people complain about a dub that the english actors worked hard to make. Of course the voices won't sound exactly alike! That doesn't make it bad though.

TL;DR Some dubs suck, like the Bible Black Dub. But all in all I like subs and dubs.

But that's different, I guess. I'm in Japanese class, and I don't use suffix/honorifics outside of class. No one in my Japanese class in college calls each other by suffix/honorifics. o.o Hell, I don't even hear the Japanese international students who came here directly from Japan to study use honorifics that much when referring to one another, or leave them out altogether. I've heard Japanese international students refer to their friends without having to use "-chan", "-san", or "-kun." |
