It is a cast of nations as overgeneralized pretty boys. The anime is taken from four panel web comics and is supposed to be funny.

You could also just watch it on youtube, they have plenty of clips.
But it is an anime with nations/countrys are given as people, and it reflects what happens in history/happened in history.
It is a comedy, and i find it to be pretty funny.

Though that will differ.

I think of it as being less historic and more rasicist, and I love it. Both series are up legal and free on Hulu, episodes are only 5 minutes each so it doesn't take much to give it a try.

Your question has probably been answered, but oh well. I'll just answer with my own anyway~

Really, it's about pretty boys who take on the role of countries. While the anime is a comedy, it also throws in historic events that had happened in the past. Each episode is 5 minutes long, and the third season has already come out, along with a movie.

Hetalia happens to help me pass my history classes. It's so sad.
It's a really good series though, and I happen to love it so much.

Why not give it a try? If it doesn't happen to be your cup of tea, oh well. To each their own~
