Just out of curiousity, are there any animes NOT based on a manga/webcomic/game/published literature? It seems every anime has a manga that came before it. I was wondering if any series STARTED as anime first and then moved on to other forms.

In fact, anime that aren't "prewritten" are more complete and hace others liberties. I mean, if it is a manga based, it can be incomplete and the anime will be a disaster (like naruto, just to say one big). Or, if it is complete, maybe the adaptation will be like "short" or "not like the manga".

I still prefer the anime without manga before airing. There are plenty of examples.

I think Negima may have been an anime first, only problem is I'm not sure which Negima.....

Negima?! was the one that started as an anime first. Negima Neo followed the second series.

Escaflowne is an odd example as the planning for the TV series version, shojo manga version, and shonen manga version of the story started at the same time and were handled by different teams. they got released at their own pace, but they each have their own unique take on the story and themes.
