It really seems to be all personal preference. I personally, am in love with Kuroshitsuji and Kuroshitsuji II; however, many seemed to have become angry with the addition of the new characters (mainly Alois and Claude) as well as angry over the way in which the second season began. In all honesty, the timeline is hella confusing and you truly do not understand what is going on entirely until the very last episode, but that made it fun for me. Plus, I love the characters too much to hate it. It got a lot darker as well so perhaps that's another issue, but then again many people like that idea. Basically, ******** what your friend says and watch it for yourself. You're the only one who knows what you truly like.

The new season isn't as good if you're really die-hard into the original characters, as many new ones are introduced for the plot. It's still pretty good, nonetheless. By no means better than the first one, but it's definitely still worth watching. Not to mention, if you don't, you're kind of left hanging from season one.
