As for darkest films, definitely Watership Down and the Plauge Dogs.

Definitely Watership Down.
I swear, General Woundwort can give a kid some serious nightmares...

Also, Hunchback for obvious reasons.

I read the book beforehand, but I didn't expect the part where Woundwort tears out Blackavar's throat. That scene was terrifying.
Plague Dogs was done by the same guy, and is equally creepy and awesome.

Grahhh D:Bad memories!
The part where Woundwort jumps at the dog always freaks me out for some reason.

I've never heard of Plague Dogs, but now I'm really interested in watching it.

edit: picture fixed

Oh Pom Poko.
Tanuki mythology makes me laugh so much.

I'd say American Pop as well, but it's more on the natural side of dark.

We watched Watership Down in elementary school one time and when rabbits started dying we were like eek . It was a good movie though.

I can't really think of any movie that was especially disturbing to me, they just had some scary moments. The Brave Little Toaster was stressful but i liked it. I really liked Hunchback too, but now I laughed when I realized what was going on during some parts, like Frollo's song.
When you think about it, loads of Disney movies are darker than you think as a kid. Like you said, in Hunchback there's a song about rape and murder. There's more occassions like this though. Scar sings about Regicide and betrayal in the Lion King. In Pocahontas, there's a song about freakin' genocide. In Alladin we get treated to the regicide theme again, along with some heavy layering of corrupt power, downtrodden societies and unjust rule of law. I'm sure there are more, but its 30 degrees and my brain ain't working right.
Awww... I miss that movie emo .

I remember that, actually, The Brave Little Toaster had some pretty dark moments. XD

And, on a newer note... Coraline. The scene in the theater, with the Other Misses Spink and Forcible. Cannot un-see gonk

The Brave Little Toaster was a bit sad to me..... wasn't there the part where the vacuum cleaner stopped working, or something? I need to see this movie again....

Oh god, Coraline XDDDD when I saw that part, my jaw dropped, rofl. I mean, wow, that is really suggestive for a kid's movie. And the whole plot about sewing buttons into eyes...... that would have easily creeped me out if I was a little kid.

My favorite Disney Classic is Mulan. Man, that is a great movie!!! And these aren't Disney movies, but I really like Anastasia, Fern Gully and Titan AE.

OMG! I LOVED Fern Gully when I was a kid! Especially when Tim Curry did the voice of Hexxus in the movie.

Has anyone seen Pebble and The Penguin? All Dogs go to Heaven? NIMH? Snow White and the Seven Dwarfettes?

I just remembered!
The Land Before Time (the original, not the many musical sequels) was also pretty dark.
I felt so bad for Little Foot when his mother died ;__;

And of course there's Bambi...

Yes, yes, yes, and no.

I also forgot to mention Wizards. That's a very dark animated film by Ralph Backshi.

When I watched the Hunchback of Notre Dame as a kid, I did think it was very dark and was depressed for a while, but I never really knew the reason until now..

Did you like Tim Curry's voice in Pebble and The Penguin? I personally like the song 'Don't make me laugh' in there.

@L Lawliet
Robin Williams did a good job as Batty. Poor thing getting hit in the face xd . Have you heard the full version of that song?
NIMH was a good movie too. The ending was heartwarming 3nodding .

@Ferrie
It is. And it was a very good movie. Both of them.
Snow White and the Seven Dwarfettes however, is very hard to find. Mind you, it's a GREAT movie. Very funny and somewhat romantic at the end.
