Seersly, it's generally not, seinen is generally the gory stuff.
And, if I want to go in that other direction, I've seen shojo gorier than shonen.

Hellsing is simply amazing nevermind, according to your poststyle, you've read Hellsing,
X/1999 is great.... It's a shojo series but... this sorta stuff happens in it, so you might want to give it a try. Although the TV anime is nowhere near as bloody as the manga or the movie.
