By the way all of you, how do you feel about the stereo types in Hetalia? I personally don't mind them and think they can be quite entertaining, but I know that not everyone shares my sentiment. I've heard comments such as "Hetalia is racist" and "They made (insert nation here) look like a compete idiot. It's not fair.". Do you agree with some of these accusations, or do you consider the portrayals fair, or even accurate? How do you feel your home country is portrayed in the series? Do you think some people are biased because they may think the depictions of other countries are fair, while the depiction their country is not?

Moreover, whether you consider the stereo types to be a good thing or not, is there ever times when you feel the series takes it too far? Or not far enough? I'm interested to hear people's thoughts on the matter. 3nodding

Not gonna lie. I read the Hetalia fanfics pretty much for the gay/lesbian porn. emo
However, I do like a well written fanfic that doesn't do the whole cliche "have sex then fall asleep" crap.
Use your imagination, make it a little more kinky.
Anyway, I wish more people would read the Hetalia webcomics. Much more fun than the anime, in my opinion.
My favourite characters are Romano and Spain.

Well in the world of fanfics there's something for everyone. Besides, I think everyone here appreciates a well written story lacking in cliched material. rofl

A lot of people do prefer anime to comic form. I've noticed this with other series' too. cat_emo I wonder if people are less and less inclined to read these days? Or do they feel silly reading comics/manga, but not watching anime?

Well, considering my country is probably the biggest idiot in the series... I'm ok with it. USA! USA! xd
But yeah, I'm pretty neutral when it comes to that issue. Do I believe most of the stereotypes? No. Do I laugh and joke about them? Yes. The problem is, there are idiots out there who believe everything they see in anime and manga. You know, the people who think Japan is like one big crazy anime convention. Wanna know a secret: It's not. There are also people who associate anyone from a country with that character. If people would grow up and use their brains, there would be less problems.

And on the subject of anime vs manga/webcomic, I have read some of the comic, but the place I read it at shut down, and I dunno where to find the new stuff. ._.

oh my christ it's a fictional show nothing about it is meant to be taken seriously at all

i feel that it does receive a bad reputation due to lack of general etiquette and common sense from a large part of the fan base but there's nothing we can do to reverse those actions

i mean i first got into hetalia before it was even an anime; before anybody knew about it, back in high school

now that it's been dubbed the fandom has exploded but i feel like the hype may be dying down a bit

I think part of that is that it's gotten such a bad rep that a lot of fans are leaving it because they don't want to be associated with it, and potential new fans won't go near it. sad
This is the first time I've been part of "the fandom to hate", and I must say it's not fun.

and while i respect everyone's opinions, i try to ignore the hate and just focus on liking something that makes me happy

What do you like about your favorite characters?

i attended afw this year and luckily there was no hetalia hate to be found

it's a simple anime convention and, for the most part, is pretty calm

anyways i like spain because he is goofy and adorable (also he's a pirate)

i like england because as crass and rude as he can be, he also seems to care a lot about others (even if he doesn't like other people knowing about his soft side, also he's a pirate)

i like denmark because i've always found guys who are loud and obnoxious, but loveable and strong to be really endearing

If only more people accepted that these are satirical, fictional characters. They are meant to be funny, not taken seriously.
There are people who will believe anything about anything though. Why can't more people be reasonable and use their heads?! *Shakes fist at the sky* emo

Hm... I don't really have an opinion on Denmark, since I haven't really seen much of him... Although I do remember a cosplayer at AWA last year who liked to photobomb. XD Any time there was a Hetalia picture being taken, they'd be in the background, jumping in the air and holding up their ax.

I developed a soft spot for Spain when he rescued Romano from Turkey. Before then I didn't think much of him, either.

England... England I just think is kind of so-so. Although I also have a soft spot for him because of a dream I had...
It was after the dentist completely ******** over my mouth, and it was full of sores and I couldn't chew. In the dream I had been in an abusive relationship and my mouth had been smashed in, and Pirate!England rescued me and adopted me as sort of a pet. We went out to eat, and I looked at him, and he said "I know you want the tomato soup, but it's too acidic. It'll burn your mouth. Pick something else." Then our waiter said they didn't have any soup, so he stood up and said. "Fine then. Let's go somewhere with some God damn class!" and kicked over the table. When I woke up I went to get some tomato soup, then remembered his words and chose the creamy chicken instead.
