There are a few ways I'm interpreting this thread:
Either OP is one of those rare types of people I've met, who thinks that the original 13 episode anime was made by THE EBIL AMERICANS [/B'AWWW]....

Or, they're not differentiating Hellsing from other series based on Dracula, or about Van Helsing.

I was going to say this, but I see it has already been said. I read the manga before trying the anime, so I am obviously biased. I watch anime to see the manga that I read animated. If it never had a manga to begin with, then I treat the anime as if it were the original source, since it is.
