Welcome to Gaia! ::

Inuyasha: "Inu"yasha inu=dog (most things can relate to dogs in this series)

Naruto: Sakura- cherry blossoms, cherry trees (mostly takes place in a forest of somesort)

Fruits Basket: Yuki- winter (a lot of things happen in winter time in the anime)

Pretear: "Hime"no hime=princess (Himeno is treated like a princess

I'm sure there's way more.
I have noticed that! 3nodding
Like in Sailormoon, all the names of the characters relate to their powers.
Tsukino Usagi: Rabbit of The Moon
Mizuno Ami: Friend of Water
Hino Rei: Spirit of Fire
Kino Makoto: Protector of The Wood
Aino Minako: Child of Love and Beauty
Etc., etc....
Even the cats, Luna, Artemis and Diana are named after Greek Gods and Goddesses! eek
i didnt but now i do blaugh
Japanese(Much like americans) just pick names that sound cool, or are relevant to the series because(Much Like Americans) most JAPANESE people don't even know what they mean.

I mean, we don't name people 'Brad' or 'Samantha' because we know what they mean. They're just common names or names that parents tend to lean towards.
does anyone read tokyo mew mew?
Err, well in DragonBall Z the naming scheme ranges from dairy products and other foods, to musical instruments, to underwear... lol

I can't remember what Rikku means, but Sora means Sky, and Kairi means Nautical Mile (kingdom hearts)

I know Sango, from Inu-yasha, means Coral.
I didn't see anyone mention Naruto... Naruto are those little start shaped things in Ramen. Naruto eats a lot of naruto...

Yeah. Like in Chrno Crusade. They guys name is "Chrono" wich means "time". If ou watch/read the anime/manga it would make a lot of sence.

Kairi, when written right, means Sea, and Rikku means land.
someone may have already said this, but in the anime/manga Pretear, "Hime" in Himeno's name means "princess"... things like that are nice, sometimes.

not to mention "Tenchi" from Tenchi Muyo. i think "Tenchi" means "heaven and earth." read that somewhere, i think.
Yeah, the do that ALOT! 3nodding
ya, its weird why the characters names' are like that

I have noticed the InuYasha means female dog demon *laughs* lol

Actually Inu means dog in Japanese for Inuyasha's name. Peace, Love, Chicken, Tapioca Everyone. biggrin xd biggrin xp

Now I always thought that InuYasha meant "Demon Dog".
Sesshomaru = perfect killer
Koga = steel blade (Or something like that. Funny how he never uses that sword)
Shippo = seven jewels
Myoga = unnoitced assitant (makes me laugh!)

Corect me if I'm wrong but most of the name translations have something to do with the character. Just like you said - they relate the characters names to the anime.
