im personally an Otaku (anime freak). it drives me crazy how a lot of people wont read or watch anime/manga, because its animated, and 'that means its for kids'. ok, newsflash, stuff for kids, doesnt have bare boobies in it. lol. im mostly a manga fan though, they get more in depth with the story normally.
JA!

"Otaku" is not a good thing. Japan's standards for what's okay for children to see is different, and boobs are okay, and finally, what the heck are yuo saying "yes" in German for?

True. Calling yourself an Otaku is just like calling yourself a Trekke.

Anime is for kids.

not all anime is for kids... in Japan Yu-gi-oh was only ment for adults

Actually, in Japan Yu-Gi-Oh is aimed at more or less the same age group it is here. It's just that Japanese parents aren't as a**l-retentive as American parents.

Adding to the "anime is for kids/anime is for adults" argument, most anime series in Japan are considered "family" shows, meaning kids, teens, and adults watch. But yes, there are series amied specifically at children, series aimed at teen, and series aimed at adults.
who thinks that anime should be for parents.....

No. It really wasn't.

Wow. You truly know nothing. In the japanese version, most of the girl cards had little or no clothing. Also, when making the transition, a lot of cursing and blood/violence have been cut.

They even make a middle finger-flick into an angry fist shake.

I know nothing? In Japan nudity, violence and cursing doesn't make something for adults; Yu-gi-oh is a children's show. The manga originally appeared in Weekly Shonen Jump, a manga magazine for young boys. The TV show was also aimed at the same demographic as the comic. The show/comic became immensely popular and Toei Animation saw their chance to turn the show into a media and merchandise mongrel for children. Which they did.

For the show to be aimed at the same age group in America as it was in Japan things had to be edited. We have different cultures and different censor ratings.

But that's acceptable for kids in Japan.

I hate 9 out of 10 other FMA fans. There is a lot of symbolism and messages about love and life in that series....then I come here:

"Ed iz so hawt111 he shud get w/ roy1111"

Amen to that.

I find the same problem in alot of other series. Like Fruits Basket. The characterization is extremely good, and the series just has so much to offer, yet a majority of the fans are like, "OMG Kyo is liek teh shmex0rzzz! I luv him no mater whut evin his tru form !"

She was refering to it from an English standpoint. Of course nudity and cursing doesn't raise the reccommended viewing bar.
We've already touched on the subject a bit... but I'll say it again just to drill it into your little heads.

In Japan Anime is NOT for an adult audience, but for children. However what is acceptable in Japan for children may or may not be acceptable in other places. Thats just the truth of things. And this is the GENERAL rule, not the law of anime. Because I'm sure just as there are cartoons that are NOT ment for children here in the US... there is also anime in Japan not ment for children either.

Manga on the other hand is a fairly universal thing ment for people of ALL ages and walks of life, in Japan.

and on the "Otaku" thing. Calling yourself, or anyone else, an "Otaku" is insulting. Because that equates to "basement troll" or "Rabbid Fanbrat" its american equivelant, only in japan.

Glad you agree. Furuba is another thing rabidly attacked by illiterate whores. It is another series that also has a lot of life lessons. To bad it is over looked. : (

Yes, but in Japan most anime is intended for children, or as family programming. However, it is true that adults like anime. Kind of like how there are adults who like American cartoons aimed for children.
