Only...L considered Light a friend and Light respected L. Now once you drag in Kira!Light, then yeah. But mainly people are thinking Light-without-memories when they talk about L/Light.

Death Note is really hard to write fanfiction for. No one has a happy ending and everyone's motives are crazy elevated, especially L and Light's.

Actually, the best term would probably be slash, since none of the yaoi pairings that have spawned from Death Note's fanbase are actually canon.
