What is it with anime nowadays?
I may have said this before, but old school anime is by far some of the best.
I can conjure up the names of many, Iczer, Guyver, Mobil Suit Gundam, Dragonball, Yu Yu Hakusho, Burn Up!, Ninja Scroll, Kinnikuman, Lupin III, Devilman, Tekkaman Blade, Fist of the North Star, JoJo's Bizarre Adventure, Samurai Pizza Cats and the list just goes on, and on.

But now, now, I can barely think of one anime made in the past 8 years that isn't just DBZ or another cliche shojo (c'mon, A hostclub? The idea was good, but the presentation was piss poor). I mean, even the remake of Guyver was bad, the dub was great yes, but what they took out of it are what made the first OVA series so damn good.

I'm sure old school fans should know what I'm talking about, and I'm sure some can feel my pain.
So give me a hell yeah if anyone here can still enjoy their favourite old school series (so, everything before 2001 counts) even after watching it over 9000 times. And hell, while you're here, you can let off any steam you may have about any new-age anime you dislike.

That's why I liked him so much.

The last eight years?
Oh come on. Anime is no shittier now than it was then, you're just holding on to your nostalgia.
There was plenty of s**t back when those were made. Just like there's plenty of s**t now. As is there good anime now.

What is it with anime nowadays? You're not looking hard enough, that's what's with it. confused

I broke him.....
I ejected him from the pinnacle of happiness,
and he shattered into pieces.
All my offspring have grown into what I wanted them to be.

I agree with Suni. It's just become a lot easier for s**t to get popular because of the internet and because of little kids who like the s**t and have internet access.

eh, not perfect, but whatever

What I mean is, why are all the mainstream anime so bad, I'm sure there is plenty of good anime, but you never hear about them. I got better things to do with my time than go out and search for every little thing that catches my eye. And there's hardly anything shitty made back then that I can think of (aside from Flint the time detective... oh god why are those memories coming back now?).
But to be honest MOST anime nowadays do suck, no lie. Look at Naruto, Death Note, Lucky Star, Haruhi, Higurashi, all good ideas, done poorly, except Death Note and Lucky Star, those were bad from the start.

Whatever, man.
Although.... Baccano, Gankutsuou, Ergo Proxy, Le Chevalier D'eon...
All examples of good anime in the past 8 years.

I miss old shojo.
Especially since the ones mostly took place in 17/18th century France.
I also liked the art style of older series much more in comparison to the recent, moe-esque look most series use.

Yeah, Rose of Versailles was awesome (assuming that's what you're talking about).
The art in that series rocked.
Can't think of too many other series that were set in France though.

And my apologies for doing this. I do the same thing if people say the reverse of your arguement, that older anime is bad, and new anime is so much better.
The way I see it, there's a bias on either side based on generations and such...
So, I'm sorry for derailing your thread abit there. 3nodding

No problem. I fully understand.

I hate to try and push my opinion onto other people, but new anime really is bad. Shounen is either DBZ with some differences, shojo is just two people slapped together because they're the main characters, horror isn't even close to being what a horror should be, and mecha anime lately are some of the most emo piles of crap out there.

Approximately 95% of the teenage population have tried or do smoke pot, if you're part of the 5% who love nothing more than bashing open some stoner skulls, put this in your sig.
Some of the newer anime is pretty good. Short, less of a storyline, but there are some that are good. Just as there were years ago. Its just getting harder to figure out which is good and which is crap since they're taking ideas from other animes. Ouran was funny though.
However, I miss YU YU Hakusho crying

Honestly I don't have any idea why YYH isn't as popular as Inuyasha seeing as it trumps it in many ways. But to each their own, i guess.

And I do not understand what people see in Bleach! Its somewhat entertaining, but what makes everyone liike it? After rewatching YYH again, it seems really boing...

Did you know. Dating a vampire is the equivalent of dating a corpse.
So, in other words, if you like twilight, you're pretty much supporting necrofelia.
Waay to go. Creeper.
