Welcome to Gaia! ::

I'm tempted, since I tend to get off work too late to go to Waldenbooks, although my points card there is a blessing whee . Once I get back, I'll likely make use of it(because it doesn't matter where I buy stuff, as long as it's in my hands and the lower price is quite an incentive xd ).

I think the manga companies made a big jump with this. The manga industry's booming, but will it last long enough to keep manga permanent in non-book/comic stores.

Interesting. Most of the chain stores I've been to only sold stuff like the edited versions of DBZ and Sailor Moon. sweatdrop I would still choose an import store, though, as the chain store wouldn't sell untranslated manga.

Well, of course. However most of the OL (original language) manga I want, I have to go thru e-bay japan for. Thank god my wife has a japanes copy of windows 98.

You can also install full Japanese support on your English system. 3nodding In XP, you can go to languages in Control Panel, install the East Asian Files, then set all non-Unicode programs into Japanese. 3nodding For typing, I use NJStar Communicator and NJStar Japanese WP, available from http://www.njstar.com

Also, have you ever been to a Kinokuniya? http://www.kinokuniya.com lists the locations, it's a great Japanese bookstore chain with many international locations. They sell a lot of manga, both OL and translated, as well as other great stuff. 3nodding

About the whole Wal-Mart dropping it...they only sell edited or PG stuff...and a lot of people don't like that (and doesn't provide much of a selection), and would rather pay a little more for un-edited stuff. A good amount of the PG anime appeals to younger audiences.

It really all depends on where you live. Personally, I like going to Waldenbooks. I've got a 10% off membership, and get gift certificates for every $100 I spend. (And I spend a LOT of $$$)

Some Wal_Marts may not carry anime and manga. I know the Target near me has anime (Got Fruits Basket for $20). But I haven't been to Wal-Mart, since I actually have to drive to get there...

Go to Waldens as often as I can too. However, it's all the way on the other side of Las Vegas and in 115 degree heat, that's a not fun bus ride for K-Chan or me. Those little $5 cards that show up are great, plus the fact that they sell 2 for the price of 3 or 5 for the price of 4 is wonderful.

Not in regards to the previous quote, I'm not saying to support any one chain over the other. This industry only obeys numbers. If we start taking our cash to these stores, it will pay us back in the end.

I remember the fight I had w/ the local Waldens to start carrying certain types of manga. Now, they stock well over a hundred titles. The local Target carries about 20-30 titles. Only good will come from this.
