GUIDELINE FOR THE ANIME FORUM

Make a Difference!

Because of the numerous spam posts and misplaced threads in the Anime/Manga/Comics forum, it was decided to create a sticky which outlines the structure of the area. By doing this we will hopefully cut down on the amount of scattered threads and make navigation in the forum a lot easier. Please take some timeout to review the contents of this sticky.

exclaim Forum Structure

a) Subforums:
There are six (6) subforums which you should make use of -- each having there own description beneath the link.

"Anime/Manga/Comic Subforum List"
Anime Series & Movies
Discuss anything related to an anime series or movie that has not aired on US television.

TV Anime
Discussion for more popular anime airing on Cartoon Network, 4KidsTV or other basic stations within North America (ie. Inuyasha, Dragonball Z, etc).

Manga
Threads related to Japanese manga, mangaka and art style.

Comic Discussion
Threads related to western comic books, super heroes, and characters. (ie. Batman, Superman, X-Men, etc).

Conventions
Discussion for cosplay and convention activities, along with costume construction, official Gaia gatherings, and more.

Animation/Cartoons
Threads related to any cartoon that is not Japanese anime (ie: Simpsons, Teen Titans, Disney movies).

b) Main Forum:
The central area, Anime/Manga/Comics, covers general/miscellaneous anime discussion that cannot be sorted into a subforum. Any topics not related to anime will be moved into the appropriate area or deleted.

Some common threads include:

1 ) J-pop
Do not post J-Pop music in the Anime/Manga/Comics forum. Located in the Music forum there is now a place to post about J-Pop music in the International subforum. For all you J-Pop fans, please take advantage of this separate area for J-pop related discussion.

2 ) Role playing
There's been an abundance of role-playing which should not be done in the Anime/Manga/Comics forum. If you'd like to create a role-playing thread visit Barton Town.

3 ) Guilds
Guilds (even related to anime) should be created in the Guild forum. If you're not sure how to start one, refer to the stickies in that forum.

4 ) Introduction/new members
There is a section on the forum index page specifically for new members called Welcome to Gaia. All introduction threads are to be made there.

5 ) Webcomics and Comic artists
If you wish to talk about or get advice for a comic/manga you are creating or just want to talk about your favorite webcomic (Sluggy Freelance, MegaTokyo, 8-Bit Theater, etc) please use the Comic Creators subforum of Art Discussion.

6 ) Videogames
While we recognize that many anime series have spawned videogames, and vice versa, threads about those games belong in the Gaming Discussion fora.

7 ) Favorite Character/Anime
Please use the stickies! All threads of this nature will be moved to Recycling Bin or deleted.

8 ) AMVs
All topics related to user-made AMVs belong in the Soundtracks & Musicals subforum.

9 ) Japanese culture and cuisine
Unless directly related to an anime series, discussions on Japanese culture, language, or cuisine do not belong in the A/M/C forum. If you wish to discuss Japanese foods or drinks please use the Food & Drink subforum. For discussions related to the language, customs, or culture of Japan please use the General Discussion or Chatterbox forums.

c) Stickies:
Please read the stickies before you post! Stickies are located at the top of each forum / subforum labeled Sticky in bold letters. If your topic is already covered in a sticky it will be moved or deleted.

exclaim Reminders!

Regarding Hentai: Gaia Online is rated PG-13 and as such all content should be kept at that level. As stated in the Terms of Service the only exceptions to the rule are made on a case-by-case basis to allow for freedom of speech. Discussion about hentai should be kept within a reasonable level and should not include a behavior/language soliciting explicit activities, cybering, or threads created for the sole purpose to spam. Posting hentai images, links to hentai images and/or fiction as well as other adult related material are not permitted in AMC and other forums in Gaia.

Regarding Yaoi & Yuri: The above rules also apply for Yaoi and Yuri. When creating new threads within this subject matter try to refrain from aimless one-worded posts (considered spam). And keep in mind that all repeatitive topics (ie: "i luv Yaoi!!!!!111" wink will be moved to the Recycling Bin or deleted.

Copyrighted Material: Regarding downloads, threads having links to web sites or other resources containing illegal downloads or streaming episodes of anime and/or manga are not permitted on the forums. Asking for or giving out such content is a warnable offense and any topics or posts created for such a purpose will be removed. Note: Linking to a site that contains copyrighted materials, even if you aren't linking to the materials in question, i.e. a picture gallery when the site contains a media page with downloads of manga, is still considered linking to copyrighted materials and a ToS violation. Any and all threads asking for download links of any sort will be removed from the forum and the creator punished if necessary. The only exception to this rule will be sites with streaming episodes that are officially provided by the owner companies, an example of such a site would be toonamijetstream.com.

Regarding "Official" Threads: We'd like to stress the fact that outside of the stickies, and the threads highlighted within the stickies (should there be any) there are no "Official" threads in Anime/Manga/Comics. All threads that bare the title "Official" and are not mentioned in said stickies, or a sticky themselves, are nothing more then user created threads, ones which are equally redundant as the topics without the "official" indicator.

Why do we feel the need to make this clear? Because it has come to our attention that there is an inordinate amount of abuse and harassment occurring in which "Official" thread supporters will attack their fellow users simply because they decided to create their own thread and not post in a pre-existing one.

Yes, it is fact that we encourage users to look before they post, to try and post in an existing thread instead of making their own, but we do not restrict them that right. Everybody and anybody is welcome to create their own thread, and everybody is equally likely to find that thread moved, binned, boxed, or deleted if it's found to be redundant, unwanted, or pointless.

Simply because your topic has existed for longer does not mean it is any more valid then a new topic. Simply because your topic is bigger does not make it official. Simply because you have more users posting in your thread willing to spam and muscle around does not mean you are right.

Should you decide to ignore this and go about attacking your fellow users because they decided that they did not like your endorsed thread for whatever reasons then you will find yourself facing a warning, maybe a ban, and maybe even finding the "official" thread you plug binned.

Regarding Spoof Thread Titles: Spoofed thread titles are not allowed in AMC. All threads using "spoofed titles" will be removed from the forum as either trolling or spam.

What is a spoof or quoted title?

Spoof titles generally involve one or more of the following elements: parody of bad grammar, inflammatory statements, discrimination by gender, race, etc., or any title that misleads the reader as to what the thread is really about.
Examples:
Quote:
I LUV INUYAHSA!!!1111 (Read first post!)
Quote:
ANIME SUCKS!

Additionally, spoofed threads can sometimes be found with one of the following in the first post:
Quote:
Now that I have your attention...
Quote:
This isn't really about <title>, but I wanted to get people to read this...

Quoted titles are simply variations of spoof titles in which the author uses an obviously inflammatory quote from another user as the title, regardless of the opinions/beliefs of the author.

exclaim Posting in AMC

Please refrain from spamming the forum! All spam and unrelated threads will either be moved to Chatterbox, the Recycle Bin, or will be deleted.

Spoiler warnings: Keep in mind that many people haven't seen the ending to a particular anime and would rather not have it spoiled for them. For instance, not everyone has access to fansubs. Some users have only seen the English release of a series that's aired on Adult Swim and hasn't completed its run. If you believe your thread/post contains plot/character information beyond a certain point which may ruin the outcome for others, please post a spoiler warning in the title of your thread or at the top of your post in bold letters. You can also hide spoiler information by making the text white, then tell users to highlight the area to read the spoiler.

Chatterbumping: It is understandable that a thread has to be bumped occasionally so that the thread doesn't fall off from the first page. We do encourage repeated use of a thread as opposed to creating a new one. We do, however, ask that instead of bumping or conversing you bring up a topic that relates to the subject of the thread, as it will bring a discussion.
There are times where someone will bring up a topic that's off-topic and that can lead to some off-topic chatter or rather chatterbumping. Chatterbumping is considered spam as it has no relevance to the actual subject, therefore, we will either delete/lock the thread or move it to the Chatterbox.

Misplaced threads: If you happen to see a thread that's out of place, it's best to report the thread using this button: Please simply use the report button instead of telling the user "this is in the wrong place," as posting such things has no positive benefits as the average user cannot move threads. Additionally, such posts can be considered spamming and treated as such.

Advertising Other Threads is NOT allowed!
You are NOT allowed to post in people's threads and ask them to go to these "official" threads or tell them to go to a thread that is already in existence. This includes repeat threads. If you go there and ask them to go to a certain thread, no matter how nicely you put it, it's advertising.

Advertising = SPAM

You are ALLOWED to have multiple threads on the same topic. Going in there and telling them it's spam/repeat and that they have to go to some thread is as bad as someone coming in and begging gold. There is no discussion at hand, and you're only making things worse.

This won't be tolerated and will get you a warning. Do it again, and you will be banned.

Pictoflaming: A popular technique for telling other users that their thread/post/idea/whatever is spam/stupid/pointless etc. Common variations range from pointing to a specific forum to telling them to get off of the forum/internet to "n00b" and various other insults. Regardless, these are not tolerated in AMC as they are both spam and abusive and shall be treated as such, meaning warnings and bans.

exclaim What does not belong in AMC?

Below are some things that are not explicitly covered in the other stickies and are no longer allowed in AMC-

"Non-topic" Anime Threads: All "non-topic" threads will be moved to the either the Chatterbox or Recycle Bin as spam. "Non-topic" threads are threads whose first post basically consists of:
  • "Has anyone seen/read <show/comic>?"
  • "Does anyone like <show/comic/character>?"
  • "What do you think of <show/comic>?"
  • "I love/hate <show/comic/character>"
  • "Does anyone remember <show>?"
  • "Is anyone watching/reading <show/comic>?"
  • "What show/character is this?"
  • "What show is <character> from?"
  • "Recommend me an anime"
  • similar one line response topics
If it can be answered in a poll, it probably isn't appropriate for AMC.

"Ban Anime Petition" Threads: There have been threads where people are linking to petitions to ban anime or save anime from being banned. These petitions are a hoax! In no way is anime going to be banned. These threads usually create panic, anger, and can also cause a flame war. If these threads are created in AMC they will either be moved to the Recycle Bin or even deleted, so please do not make these types of threads.

"Anime Definition" Threads: There have been threads wherein users attempt to define the word "anime" in various ways. These threads are arguing semantics in order to upset the other half of the fanbase. Along the same lines, "Is <show> anime?" and "<show> is anime" are not appropriate for AMC. If you can find the show here, then it is considered a Japanese cartoon. If you can not, then it is not considered a Japanese cartoon. All threads on these topics will be removed from the forum.

Versus Threads: Versus threads are no longer allowed in Anime/Manga/Comics Main as well as the Anime Series & Movies, TV Anime and Manga subforums. This decision has been made after thoroughly discussing a number of factors. These factors include, but are not limited to, the fact that a growing number of versus threads were veiled attempts at trolling, the increasing number of reports concerning abuse coming from within these threads (even in the non-borderline trolling cases) and also the declining effort put into creating and replying to these threads. Multiple solutions were considered when coming to this decision, but as none of them proved feasible, the decision to ban versus threads from most of AMC was reached.
