Book>original>Tim Burton.

The Burton version was total trash. I walked in hating it and left loathing it. I didn't watch Chronicles of Narrnia the first time through so why would I want to watch it now?

I have not had a chance to read the books, something I will rectify in the near future.

As far as the movies are concerned, I do believe that a comparison between Tim Burton's movie and the original Disney classic is meaningless. This one was not a "remake" or "re-mastery" of the original, but a continuation with a different story in mind. This was not so much about the whimsical fantasies of a child who had yet to discover herself but the rediscovery of one's self image and courage. Also, the characters were designed to be different in this movie as opposed to the original Disney classic. The tea party hosts we more designed for light entertainment in the original Disney cartoon, where as the Mad Hatter in Tim Burton's "Alice" was more plot driven and very much a man insane with loathing and grief more instead of the whimsically white-haired wacko that we all laughed and giggled at as children in the Disney Classic. The two films stand separately in two different spaces of a room and not shoulder to shoulder.
