My issue with the Tim Burton version is that too many people seem to want to make the Alice stories into something dark and creepy. As if the "American McGee" games weren't bad enough, Burton had to make his own 'dark' version? Maybe there's potential for the Alice books to seem a little scary but the overall tone is lighthearted and comforting.

The supposedly 'scary' moments in the originals have the reader laughing at the crazy characters, not afraid of them.
