Well, I don't know if this is a horror anime or not (I've never seen it myself), but I've heard some pretty good things about Higurashi.

There's a couple of seasons, but it's like a total mind ******** series. It's epic ^_^

Elfen Lied is pretty violent not sure if you'd call it horror. Then there's Paranormal Agent. There's also an anime called Le Portrait de Petit Cossette it's just freaky.

Yeah it's not exactly scary, but normally if you like horror you'll like the overly violent types.

perfect blue is awesome if you're looking for something a bit more subtle
gets the point across and has the power to creep the s**t out of you without resorting to FOUNTAINS OF GORE
