Do you know what this is doing for us as a province financially?
Universities lose 2 weeks of school that are not going to be made up for, however tutision costs continue to sky rocket! Health care system is being damages to the point where if the sugergy is not necessary to prevent death, then the patient must pay for it! We already have enough problems with the Operating Room being open only 4 days out of the week! Because of a warm winter, costs are digging into our waterbomber and fire prevention budget to ship snow to the mountains. Forest Fires are a serious issue here, nearly 20 towns had to be evacuated last year alone, leaving thousands of people homeless for months. What are we going to do if fires are worse this year because of a dry summer?
I think if they want the Olympics VANOC AND THE OLYMPIC COMMITEE ALONE should pay for the damn thing. And don't tell me this is an event for everyone because if it was, then the price for tickets should NOT be over $200 each for crappy seatting. So while we get stuck with the bill, those pricks are laughing to the bank from the profits of consumerism, not once suffering any financial loss. They don't even have to pay for a god-damn thing like accomidation, meals and transportation.
Originally the Olympics were about amature athletes trying to get into the business, but now these are all professionals - you have to be recognized by some world league to even considered to be elegable to participate in the olympics.

And finally - only one city has ever seen profit from the Olympics, LA but even they barely scraped by with a profit of 25k. Everywhere else is left with million dollar debts that are going to take at least 3-4 generations to pay off.
