This is being posted under GCD since it's involving our online community.

Hello Gaians,

We need your help. The Gaia customer service team (aka Admins) here at Gaia headquarters is participating in a company-wide “cube decorating contest.” We have a few ideas for themes, but thought you might be able to help us with better creative ideas. I know you guys are really creative, so show me what you got! We have a limited amount of time to go buy the decorations, so let us know your ideas by Monday, May 5th at high-noon, PDT. We’ll pick from your vast ideas, go buy the stuff, pimp out to the max, and then post pictures of the decorated cubes afterwards. And then, separately, you guys will decide which Gaia department wins the interior decorating contest!

Here are some guidelines that we have to follow:
• We have a budget of $1,100 US dollars to “pimp out our cubes.”
• We can get stuff like lighting, art for the walls, floor coverings, mobiles, wall coverings, the sky’s the limit! (well, within the budget amount).
• Suggest a theme as well as what items we should go buy to make the theme complete.
• Multiple theme ideas are allowed per member. Give us lots of ideas.
• There are 9 departments in the contest, but none of them are probably reaching out to you for ideas like we are! See how the customer service team is always thinking about you, our members? biggrin
• If we choose a member’s idea to go with, that person will win 10,000 gold as well as unlimited online bragging rights (sanctioned by the Admins)! The first member with the winning idea gets the prize, so post your ideas here publicly rather than PMing me.
• Ideas that have already been thought of (therefore not eligible for the 20k gold) are: space theme, jungle theme, and two others I have written down at the office that escapes me right now. I will update this list tomorrow.
• This ideas-generating contest ends on Monday, May 5th at high noon, PDT.

Let the creative juices flow and leave us your theme ideas as Replies below! And thanks for your ideas! Go!

“eat egg”

Edit:
Ok, this part of the contest is over now. You guys gave us sooo many great ideas that we're going to pick not one, but 11 of them for our dept. One theme for each cube with an over-arching theme of "Inspirations from our Members." I'll list off the 11 winners/ideas soon and the users who'll EACH get 10,000 gold! Thanks everyone for such great ideas -- it was really hard to pick from so many great ones.

We're decorating now and you'll soon be involved in judging which department's theme wins. So check back here soon for an update later this week. Hoping to not only have pictures, but maybe even a video of each dept's decorations so that it'll be easy for you to see all the details.

Thanks again!

Tae

Edit 5/8:
Ok, so the following 11 user ideas were chosen for the customer service (Admins) department's cube decorations. We're getting a big 25-foot-long sign made that pays tribute to you, our members!

Sushi/Bento Box by tidesong (wow double bragging rights!)

Hey Tae, WhaDaYaSay?

Username pronounced "eat egg." xd

AWMAN. I love what you guys did for halloween, Ithis is gonna be fun.

unfortunately, all my one-track mind can think of is a Roller derby theme. get some skirts, fishnets, old rollerskates and band-aids and just go crazy. maybe map out a "track" in your cubespace with rope lights. get a lot of cardboard cutouts and set 'em up in skaterly poses or whatnot.

good luck!

Dev McAwesomeface just Fleepjacked that feature.

SHINY!
Grand Theft Auto-themed decor is great. surprised

Lots of 3D arts. Seriously, do you guys play GTA? emo

Run away with my heart.

Run away with my hope.

Run away with my love.

How about pirate themed? Well, pirate ship I guess. There are lots of places on a pirate ship, like the captain's cabin, on deck, crow's nest, in the gut of the ship and all that so it would be a nice bit of variety between cubicles. What to buy to achieve this effect is something I'll need to think about.

Edit: Suggestions of things to buy:

- "Paper" lanterns that are electric to go in the corner of each cubicle or hang all over if they're cheap enough.
- Netting or rope to drape around.
- Some wallpaper to look like wood planks around cubicle walls.
- Little pencil holders that look like barrels or baskets.
- Port holes so employees can see each other. (So you're not so isolated anymore!)
- Get a hammock or two for the office so tired workers pulling overtime can take naps.
- Cheap eye patches for everyone. x3
- Cheap reproduction naval equipment accents like little anchors, sandbags, telescopes, etc.
- Pirate flags. There are actually lots of different ones. Each employee could pick their own band of pirates and get their flag or something if there are enough flags. Or form separate pirate crews. xD Linkage: http://www.thecountrypirate.co.uk/indexpage/pirateflags.jpg
- If it's usually quiet in there (doubtful, I know xP ) you could get a CD with ocean sounds to play so it would create the illusion of having set sail.
- Foam pirate swords and shields when you get tired of Nerf wars and want some close combat. ;D
- Neat treasure map artwork. Or art of mythical places in pirate legend/nautical legend.
- Jar of dirt?

REALLY optional stuff that I'm mostly kidding about:
- A pet bird for the office. Gotta get the cage and all that. And be able to care for it. I know this is not likely to be favored. x3
- If not a pet bird, a pet fish or two in a small 10 gallon tank. Raise your own cuddly krakens!
- A flat of rum for all the 21 and older employees to ease the pain in those hard times and long nights at work. ;D

OR

Native American art themed. More on that later.

Edit: Ironically due to a Native North American art exam, I'm not able to suggest things to buy in any sort of detail because I need to study. I just hope you like the idea enough to run with it if pirates didn't make the cut. x]

I double pirates!!!!

Vader Was Amazed To Discover That When Boba Fett Said “AS YOU WISH” What He Meant Was “I LOVE YOU”

Lego themed! Hello Kitty~ <-- my favorite!

Uhm.. little kid stuff, with like little plastic toys, a tiny chair and a winnie-the-pooh mobile or something like that. *w*

A sewer. OAO? With.. a mouse mobile, and an ugly rug that looks like trash. : D Yaaay! Make posters that looks like concrete gray walls with stains on them.. <-- I'm weird.. O-o;;;

A Hawaiian luau! Get like tiki torches and some palm trees. >P And one of those fake fires would be cool. O-o;;

Yeah.. I'm not creative unfortunately. *dies*

But yeah, I ditto Adnama Lavode. Pirates would be cool. @w@

How about a Hawaiian theme. You can have palm trees, maybe a cabana, some lei of all different colors.

Or a medieval theme. Have the walls look like a caste, weapons, armor. Get a rocking horse, and you can have jousting matches. Can't forget you will need a dragon. 3nodding

OH OH I KNOW!

A duck pond. So I know some of you have Rubber Duckies already, so all you need is some pretend grass...like green streamers! And then maybe some lily pads! And then you could have some blue carpeting of some kind? Hmm...I know I've seen some blue floor mats somewhere. Or you could use some blue fabric of some kind. Then you could paint some trees on some paper for the walls so it's kinda like a pond surrounded by trees. I'm so smart. I love ducks too much also...

Beware the Tarakip...
I am the embodiment of fear and evil

Since I'm a huge nerd...Harry Potter themed.

Oh or Evil Dead! But that might be a little hard unless you can find a fake chainsaw... ninja Ignore that one...*sings songs from the musical*

Shrimpie is Currently:Feeling nostalgic...

Oooo Caves would be good xD You could have drawings of like your stereotypical office cubical junkie skeletons, lost looking for the one true red stapler xD You could use the fake fires some one has already mentioned as torches, scattered around to more easily create the look of a dark cave (it's all in the shadows, trust me xD)

Some foam could be recruited to make stones, stalagmites (I always forget which ones come from the floor) and even the occasional bone.
On another note, the walls could also use some posters of "cave paintings" except with a bit of a more modern office twist, rather than people chasing mammoths (unless that's what you all do xD)

Fake rubber bats could also be beneficial, adding to the cave feel :3
If you really wanted to splurge, one cubicle could be enlisted to act as the "treasure room" of this complex cave system, complete with perhaps the dress up jewelry and money you can buy from any CVS or other pharmacy store in the kids toy section.
Given the location of the Gaia offices, it shouldn't be too hard to find a Party or Costume store, where things should be on the cheap since it's off the peak season 3nodding

I'll update this set as I poke around the internet for things to buy on the cheap~

"Torrie in Boots, and Daft the donkey, here to save the day!"

[something awesome goes here]
well when it comes to something I will see everyday, I'd tend towards something that will ALLOW creativity, something zen-like would be nice, replace/put infront of cube dividers with shoji screens.
You can fake the shoji screens by using a normal corkboard under but put a layer of thin white cloth on top so it can double up as a normal cork board.

hang a paper lantern from the ceiling and make some paper cranes, "tatami" on the table, bamboo stationary holder, and a little bonsai plant ^^

---------------------------------

Other more fun themes:
super heros, with all the pow wow action words

hello kitty!!!! hahahaha and other sanrio characters

spongebob square pants, so its kinda like an ocean theme but not really

electrician/computer parts theme.... use resistors and wires to decorate the cube, make it look like an exposed motherboard!

candy wrapper/food wrapper theme.... everything is candy and food o.O

tidesong

How about a Willy Wonka theme. You can get foam or different kinds of material, and have a chocolate waterfall. Also make giant candies. Take one of the giant candies, and make a secret compartment where you can have an actual stash of candy for when you need some sugar.

Maybe a zoo. You can get all kinds different stuff animals. Make it look like your in a cage. Maybe have some don't feed the animal signs.

sushi theme:
Wrap the cube walls up with seaweed-like wrap and stick styrofoam/plastic rice -looking bits at the end to simulate the rice inside, add a huge raw "salmon" on the top, get some kinda rubber for that?

cheese factory theme:
cube walls with metal(aluminium foil maybe?) and gears... milk comes in at one end and cheese out the other..... make a dustbin look like a milk bottle, another to be wrapped up like cheese.... attached tubes everywhere

tidesong

vehicle theme: use headlight looking things for lights, use rubber tyres for chairs, put paint samples all over the cube walls, different vehicile spec sheets everywhere....

spring garden theme:
flowers and stuff, make a gazebo roof over your cubes! add a sprinkler (that doubles up as a ... water gun???) in the middle of the ground

tidesong

Why not simply do the obvious: Something Gaia-Themed. Murals for the walls - The artists themselves can go wild with paints maybe? - and lay each section out to resemble a town. Perhaps let people choose their town and move the cubicles around?
You could do something neat with the carpets. Like this:

http://www.highlights.com/images/us/local/products/viewlarger/007108.jpg

It would be fairly cost-effective, as well, allowing the staff to spend the left-over on advertising, sponsorship, or a slight 'bonus' for the workers. >w< You'd blow a lot on paint, especially if you went really wild and painted the ceiling with sky and clouds. But, it'd be a fitting office, and probably a really fun project too.

Plus, it'd be easy to find people. owo
"Where's Fleep?" "Over in Barton, slacking off. talk2hand "

You could put up some Papier Mache` trees, too!

Well, I thought it sounded like a fun idea... emo
