That site seems rather f'ed up. I mean that literally as in very sick and twisted.
This organization has food they can donate to starving children. And what do they decide to do with it? Turn it into a game. I mean, people's lives are at stake here, people are starving, yet they turn it into a huge game.
Instead of giving the rice they have to the starving people, they decide to turn it into a game where based on if you get the word right, they donate the rice. Otherwise, if you fail, they just sit back and let the starving people starve to death.
How about they just donate all the rice they have? Why play games with people's lives like this? Don't they see how rather messed up that is? I mean, it sounds like a good idea. A good idea for the people playing it. I mean, the people playing the game have good intentions. However, if you look at the organization doing this, you really have to think... why the hell are they holding back food just to make some internet game for people to play? For what? Site revenue? I mean what kind of sick, twisted tactic is that? They could donate all the rice they have, but nooo. let's turn it into a word game and leave it all up to people on the internet to decide the fate of people starving in this world.
They need the money from the sponsors that they show you when you play. It's also trying to build vocabulary for people since there is a large amount of people who are uneducated out there and it helps them build it.
They don't just have all of this rice lying around. They buy it, using the money that they get from sponsors that advertise on their site. And they need the game so that people will come to the site because they think that they are doing good for the world, which they are. So, it wouldn't exist without the vocab game.
